[Business] Comcast Business modem and installation

Alright it's been asked to death. I'm upgrading to Business from Teleworker. I wanted the faster tier, so hence the change. I had 16/2—I'm upgrading to 22/5. I can't justify 50/10. I also ordered a static IP.

Which modem am I going to get? The order say D3 modem.

Also I got the 12 month agreement… what could they possibly be doing that costs $250 for installation?

Thanks.

You will get the SMC D3G. If you are simply replacing the existing modem with the new D3 gateway, there won't be much work involved, other than the tech downloading the IP address into the gateway.

Without knowing your setup, I don't know if the tech needs to do any wiring adjustments.

My current setup is a just a Motorola SB6120 that I own. I have a Apple router set up for the rest of the my computers. I have a Cisco 1841 that I've been delaying setting up, so I don't know if I'll use that.

The only wiring is the coaxial out of the wall to the model and an Ethernet to my router.

I just canceled cable TV, so they will probably rid of one of the lines.

Is the SMC D3G good? Can I disable everything and just use it as a modem?

It can be bridged and used as a standalone. There are mixed reviews about them, but I personally do not see the issues. I started this thread with a little feedback:

All in all, it is a decent modem IMHO.

Alright; tech just installed the D3G modem. Now nothing works. How do I disable everything but the modem?

So everything is as promised… but a small issue (maybe not an issue):

I only have 2 channels bonded for downstream and no channels bonded for upstream. Upload not perfect, but it works almost alright. The main reason I'm worried about the upstream is that it's only 16QAM…
