How to stop Bell from sending postal junk mail?
Does anyone know who and what to contact to stop these advertising messages? It's a waste of paper for me.
Thanks!

Re: How to stop Bell from sending postal junk mail?
I just wrote to privacy@bell.ca since they provide no way to do it online. I keep getting Bell junkmail asking me to get homephone service again and get Bell TV which I've told them a host of times NFW unless they want to cut down my neighbours' trees!
I also had a spammy phone call from somebody claiming to be Bell at 844 704 2622

Here's an Idea.
Save it up. When we're out shopping or whatever drop by the Local Office and give it all back. Help them recycle the crap. Tell them we don't need it so maybe they'd like to send it someone else.

More than sixteen months after i moved in i still get junk mail
addressed to the previous occupant. Bell won't print a return
address on those letters but i can tell where they come from
because the enveloppes aren't totally opaque. I can't bring it
back to the local post office as there's no return address and
Bell ignores the addressee every time she cares to explain to
them that she moved and cancelled all of her Bell services!...

If it's the mail that Canada Post delivers (eg: there's no postal address), then there's no way to stop it.
If it's the mail that Bell sent to you directly, but it doesn't have your name on it (eg: To: Occupant), then it won't stop either.

The wet noodle Canadian Marketing Association (CMA) has "strict standards its' member adhere to". Bell Canada is a member.
Even if you have a business relationship with them and on the DNCL, this is supposed to take you off their market lists (both mail and phone), per the CMA.
"Strict code" that Bell must follow:
The Do Not Call/Mail application webpage:
If, after 6-weeks, you still get junk from Bell Canada, then you can submit a formal complaint with this wet noodle organization here in compliance with their strict code of ethics and their "Operation Integrity":
(I am unsure if there is an online submission page for complaints. Likely not since they would be flooded with complaints about Bell).
So that is how you do it with Bell Canada and the wet noodle CMA.
Enjoy.
Please provide feed-back to us here after 6-weeks if you continue to get junk and you subscribed to the wet noodle CMA do Not Contact program that is "strictly enforced to their standards and code of ethics.

It can be stopped. Via the CMA. You have to submit your adddress. In the area titled variation of names, type: occupant
There are strict standards and a code of ethics Bell must follow, per the CMA.

If it's "flyer mail" ... i.e. advertising that's not addressed ... like the unaddressed envelopes, or the flyers, or the info sheets from your MP (Oh I hate those braggard sheets!) etc. then these cannot be stopped. They are given in bulk to the carriers and they have no way to tell if you're on the CMA list.

That is true, but, Bell also sends letters addressed to "occupant" at "address"

Re: How to stop Bell from sending postal junk mail?
They can't be stopped, but can't they stop? But if we all physically carried the junk into one of their outlets, (bell, rogers, whatever), and said we didn't order it and don't want it and are returning it so we don't get billed for it, or so they can save some trees by sending it to someone else, or whatever, perhaps we might cause them to re-evaluate their wasteful methods, and maybe stop it that way.
Recently a drug store in the area changed the way they did things because customers began leaving the unwanted flyers and paper crap right at the door on the way out. Took about a week.

Canada Post still does have to deliver it each time, even if they know you aren't at that old address. The only way around that would have been if you had a forwarding address listed at the time of moving. If that wasn't done, postal work must deliver the mail as addressed. The new occupant would have to refuse to accept the mail each time and it would then be deemed as undeliverable. Or the new occupant could just give it back to the mail delivery person each time and the same thing happens. The new occupant would have to tell the delivery person "unknown/moved" for them to take it back. As you already know, as there is no return address, it can't be returned to sender and Bell has no way of knowing to stop sending you (junk) mail at the old address.

Doing this will stop all unaddressed mail: »www.reddotcampaign.ca/
But beware that you may not receive any municipal notices like the garbage collection calendar, for example. But you can't stop parliamentary and elections mailings, ever.

Some great discussion here.
I'm specifically interested in stopping direct mail addressed to us or former occupant: i.e., Home Phone/Internet/TV promotional mails after you've already cancelled.
Does this fall under CMA?

The way I see it is as follows:
They ask for variations of the addressed to name (as can be seen on the webpage).
Put all variations of the names going to you and/or your address.
Take screen shots as proof of you putting it there.
After 6 weeks, if you still get this crap, let us know and let us help you file the complaint. :)

What if we put it in the mailbox of Bell management and if we don't live near any redirect it to their homes instead.
I'm up for spending a few bucks on postage.

Re: How to stop Bell from sending postal junk mail?
You could always just use your printer to print the bell HQ addy on the un-opened envelope, type return to sender on it and let Bell pay the postage. :p
Wonder if that would work?

Re: How to stop Bell from sending postal junk mail?
No, because addressed admail does not include return to sender service unless the item says "RETURN POSTAGE GUARANTEED" on it.
Anything addressed to "Occupant" will never be returned to sender.

Re: How to stop Bell from sending postal junk mail?
I had a Bell telemarketing call on Friday night at 9:30 p.m. The caller wanted to help save me money by bundling my Bell phone with Bell Internet. He suggested that it would cheaper than my current Internet service, which he assumed was Rogers. As it happens, I already have Bell Internet. When he understood this, there was silence, and I assumed he moved on to another call without so much as a goodbye.
I'm going to try your privacy@bell.ca suggestion. Any other suggestions? I would be up for calling some marketing honcho and telling them what I think of being disturbed at home.

They aren't supposed to call you after 9 pm anyway!
I'd definitely rattle somebody's cage. There are a couple possibilities ... it was a Bell telemarketer who was breaking the law ... it was a scammer telemarketer who wanted to get your personal info and posing to be working with Bell.

Here is what privacy@bell had to say:
===
...We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused as a result of these calls.
The role of the Bell Privacy Ombudsman is to ensure adherence to the Bell Code of Fair Information Practices, which governs the handling of customer information that the Bell Companies collect, use and disclose for the purpose of providing communications service.
The Customer Relations Centre, Bell Executive Office are best positioned to address telemarketing concerns and/or delisting requests. We have therefore forwarded a copy of your e-mail to them for appropriate action. A representative from the team will respond directly to you....
===
So they have forwarded my message to the Customer Relations Centre, but did not cc them, so I they aren't giving me their address, either deliberately or otherwise.

I've been retired from the workforce for about 4 years now and find I on occasion have too much time on my hands so I let all my junk mail add up (with return envelopes) stuff them with other companies return forms, then mail them on their merrily way.

So, if you send white powder to someone, and you identify yourself here, I wonder what the odds of them finding you. I believe the results of sending white powder like coffee mate to someone would be like saying "bomb" in an airport ... doesn't go down too well with authorities!

Not that you'll post this but are you suggesting a subpoena for an IP.
Just last week we had everyone's favourite TSI poster counselling people to shoot Bell employees "for real" to quote him.

Doesn't need the IP to locate somebody when they give what looks like a fairly legit name and post code! Even if the name's wrong, they'll have a good go with the post code, or if the PC's wront they can have a good go with the name!
We do have some colourful people here.

Really. Such violence. No need for this.
Just send in some people with infectious diseases like viral pneumonia and swine-flu to cough or vomit in their offices/buildings and let nature takes its course.
white powders and physical violence is so yesterday... *cough*

A while ago I would said even that wasn't necessary as the company can only operate like sleaze bags for so long before they go under.
Well the laughs on us with their quarterly earnings almost doubling to 558 million. Darwin would be proud.

Unless there is an existing business relationship, marketers must use the CMA DNC list to cross-reference and purge all telephone, fax and mail marketing lists, removing the contact information of those who are on the CMA DNC list.

If you've got a Bell service and don't want to receive unsolicited/marketing mail the above would apply?
When I asked Bell CS to be removed from their mailing list, they said sign up not to receive unsolicited mail. However, I still receive this crap although I signed up with the CRTC. The above where it says: unless there is an existing business relationship - says it all!!!! DUH!!!
