Comcast Voice Question- Voice Mail Issue

Hello, I am new to Comcast Voice- just got it about 1 week ago. My issue is the following. I do not use Comcast Voice Mail- I have my own answering machine box hooked up to my phone.. However, yesterday I lost my Internet connection (town wide) and hence the phone was down... People were calling my number and it went directly to comcast voice mail.. I dont want to use their voice mail.. Do calls automatically go to comcast voice mail if the phones go down? I would rather have a fast busy or let it ring. Any help with this issue woudl be great thanks

Yes, if the phone does not ring? What is wrong with CC vmail? You can check it anywhere with an Internet connection, plus more robust then a home answering machine.

You can call Comcast and they will disable voicemail for you.

Call in and ask for it to be removed. Make sure if you do get it removed to delete all voice messages first, otherwise you may get the voicemail studder tone afterwards. Also if your phone does go out (which it inevitably will) anyone that calls in will get some kind of busy signal.
