Well 85,000 or more people is a pretty persuasive sounding board. The coalition and the opposition parties need to keep the heat up now. This kind of exposure helps to educate the masses and helps to get this issue into the forefront.

Actually? Nope. Nobody cares. Remember, in the end it's just electrons changing hands. Our politicians are still hooked on paper. Ergo, no hard-copy letters, no faxes = no issue.
I will forecast right here and right now that nothing, absolutely nothing will happen.

I think Mike should get ready to top 10, 000 signatures. Lots of people are posting the Dissolve the CRTC web page address.

Just to put this in a bit of perspective:
1. The Conservative government is saying their pandemic death-flu information program is a great success because 50-thousand people downloaded their PDF on swine-flu from the gov website. (this was a speech by the health minister on the news). They said this proves they are working for the people and are in control.
2. More than 85-thousand Canadians wrote their MP's because they lost faith in the CRTC to manage competition, lay a frame-work that is not anti-competitive and to force change to foster a healthy, competitive, environment.
So if the gov can proclaim on national TV that 50-thousand downloads prove they are so great, what will 85-thousand letters make them proclaim on national TV about the CRTC?
I am betting 5$ they proclaim nothing.
Let me toss in one more tidbit in this:
Now in addition to this, if the gov can proclaim on national TV that their online material informs people of a "deadly" pandemic and perhaps saves the lives of many, doesn't this (once again) show internet should be essential and a charter protected right? After all, they claimed this themselves that the online program is informing 10's of thousands and informing them how to prevent a deadly illness, in addition to the 300-thousand hits on their web site to get a phone number to call for info (lets not get into a flu debate, just something I noticed).
So this 85-thousand is showing two things.
Hmm ay... anyhow.

Exactly, look how many riding were won by less than 1000 votes, you have to figure that for each person who bothered to contact their mp/the pmo's office there is atleast 3-5 who feel the same but didn't.
255 000 to 425 000 people is a lot and elections have been determined by far less.

You know as far as politics go, Telecom reform and renewing a pledge to make the Canadian marketplace could be a feasible platform or campaign in todays political environment. Wonder which politician will pander to the masses first on behest of "Change".
Like AkFubar and TFSnameless just said in this post, there is a raw untapped feeling of resentment for our telco's. Like 85, 000 were angry enough to make an action as time goes who knows they may escalate it to actually go out and vote based on these viewpoints. Also no one likes the telcos, demonizing them has very little blow back except the politicians lose out on the generous Bell exec donors.
You know there is some sort of collusion when a Political hot-topic is avoided by all parties ... seriously all they need to do is make mention of there displeasure of the incumbents and the state of competition for a week and watch it resonate and spread.

There have been alot of big stories in telecom related areas lately so there is a decent chance that this issue could gain politcal traction.
The whole Wind/CRTC/Ind Canada fiasco while not the same as this has helped bring into question how things are run in the telecom industry.
