[Cable TV] New VOD offerings from Major Networks.

When I went home for lunch my DCT had a message that said:
"Don't miss a minute of your favorite shows with Lifetime, TNT, TBS, Cartoon Network, USA, Bravo and SyFy On Demand! Go to Ch 1, select Free Pass then select TV Entertainment. Only On Demand."

I looked over a few of the networks and the VOD doesn't offer all shows on each network, but it is a start.

Some of the shows like Park & Rec, on the NBC network, don't let your pause of FF/RR for some reason during playback.

Has this been available for a while and I missed it?

NBC probably wants you to WATCH their commericals in REAL time. :(

Been available for few months. And I have watched the NBC ones its only 1 commercial so not a big deal to me. Now offer them in HD and that will be sweet.

Yes the only messages that are on time would be revenue generating messages like ppv movies and events. General info here in the quad-cities is usually 6-8 weeks behind.

Yep, the lack of HD VOD made the Mediacom DVRs pretty useless for me, so I just got a TiVo. TiVo will be VOD compatible soon anyway.

Why would not having HD VOD make a DVR useless?

My hope for the future is that ALL shows will be On Demand in the future, shortly after the show is broadcast. Or maybey hhave Everything be On Demand, except for the obvious "live" shows (ie: sporting events)

What I meant was that VOD is the only reason to have a Mediacom DVR. If you must have VOD, you can only get that through a Mediacom DVR at this time. Because of their lack of HD VOD, instead of suffering with the Mediacom DVR, I switched to a TiVo, since I didn't want SD VOD. That's all I was saying.

HD only DCT will provide access to HD VOD content.

So you switched to TiVo because you need HD VOD? Good luck with that!

Re: [Cable TV] New VOD offerings from Major Networks.

In fact Tivo offers streaming Netflix on Demand, which has several thousand HD feeds, as well as Amazon, which allows downloading of almost any new movie HD, for the same money as renting a movie from Mediacom. I get that there is download time that comes into play, but on the other hand once downloaded I have never been dropped out, while Mediacom's on demand has failed on me in multiple locations- my new home, my old apartment, several of my friends places, etc. Before mentioned I should say I recognize that Tivo is going to cost more than on demand if you do not have a DVR box, so I don't think that talking on demand between the two is an apples to apples comparison, but saying good luck with that when you obviously have no idea what is available on Tivo somewhat discredits you. I think it is nice to see additional on demand- and I know that the missing shows/ability to fast forward are due to the networks, and really have nothing to do with Mediacom, but there are several on demand options in Tivo- in fact HD Tivo's have an on demand menu in their main menu. And much of it is available in HD. And having used both- on a 55" 1080p 120 Hz Sony, with surround sound, I can say that the Tivo HD streaming from Netflix is every bit as good as an HD on demand feed from Mediacom- (I have only seen the Olympics of Mediacom's feed.) Both have their good points.

What I meant was, two way cable card systems are in the works but should be several years away at least. Also VOD is ON DEMAND meaning when you want it. I don't consider satellite and TiVo 'VOD' service to be ON DEMAND services since they require downloads.

As far as I'm concerned there is no TiVo VOD and satellite VOD.

FYI, Mediacom uses SeaChange (at least I was told before that they did).
