[Equipment] Inbound data problems with unlocked RT31P2 (VOIP.ms)

Hopefully someone here can guide me to what I'm missing. I apologize in advance if the answer I'm looking for is here somewhere already; I've researched as much as I can on NAT and STUN issues and have tied every suggested configuration for Sipura devices.

Problem in a nutshell: Had complete functionality working on the RT31P2, inbound and outbound audio. After reboot of router, no incoming data. Can get a dial tone and dial, but no audio once connected (.2 second click, then silence.) The call is connected and I can hear audio on the called phone.

The router is directly connected to the Internet and has a public IP. The IP is completely accessible from the Internet. The router settings are attached. I have tried both enabling NAT (NAT is enabled on the VOIP.ms settings page), enabling STUN and both. the settings in the screenshots show both enabled. The VOIP.ms website shows the router as registered.

The crazy thing is that everything was working since the get-go with just the basic settings as instructed on the VOIP.ms website

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

I have found that you do not actually need an active STUN server setup to get the functionality of a keep alive with that device.

What you can do is the following:
Disable STUN on the SIP page.
Set the NAT Keep Alive Interval to 20-30 seconds or so, this will simulate hosted NAT traversal.
Save the changes.
Click on the LINE page for the line you wish to setup a Keep Alive on, and set the NAT Keep Alive to Yes.
Set the NAT Keep Alive Message to $REGISTER
Set the NAT Keep Alive Destination to $PROXY
This will resubmit a registration request based on the timer you set on the SIP Page to the PROXY you have registered on the line page.

I have used this fix to simulate hosted NAT traversal on a device that kept dropping registration, and it fixed my problems.

Let me know how it works out for you.

Thanks PPT, I will give those a try. But here's a "take a step back" question: Being that the RT31P2 is both adapter and router, and has a public IP (the DSL modem is assigning it's address to the router), is NAT even relevant?

Typically Hosted NAT traversal will only be invoked if their server sees a private IP on the adapter. Setting up the NAT keep alive forces the device to resubmit registration based on the interval you set on the SIP page, and can help prevent timeouts. Not saying this is a guaranteed fix, but it has resolved several issues for me with that device when it has a public IP.

Thanks for the help. I used your recommendations but was still not receiving any incoming data. Today I:

1) Re-registered on the Dallas (from Houston) server.
2) Set the RTP port range according to VOIP.ms' guidelines (these were never set, even when it was working last week.)
3) Adjusted the ATA's time to adjust for the end of DST.

One of those three did the trick.

what do you mean by no incoming data? do mean your phone doesn't ring?

What was happening was that outside of the tones my ATA generated, it was if the phone earpiece was dead. Could not hear ringing or the called party.

Re: [Equipment] Inbound data problems with unlocked RT31P2 (VOIP

what tones did your ATA generate? dial tones, ring tones, busy signal tones, keypress tones, other tones, wha?

also you say now the phone earpiece is dead, but in your first message you say "The call is connected and I can hear audio on the called phone." Which is it?

are you talking only about inbound calls to you, through your adapter? or are you mixing stuff up in your descriptions?

Please describe separately exactly what happens when you make calls out from the adapter, and exactly what happens when you receive calls to your phone number.

do troubleshooting only with a single line corded phone, no cordless.
