Those who have Java 1.6.0_18-ea-b01 have an Early Access version, a Beta. That's what the ea in the version string stands for.

yes it would be wise to stick wherever possible to the current build unless of course you like to get your hands on early beta builds :)

Build 17. Guess need to find 18. And I thought Shockwave Flashplayer website always freezing on me was a bore.
Wondering if Mac gives discounts for used PC gear.

Ok then why would the version i downloaded yesterday as shown in my attachments be of a beta when it clearly shows that it's a download of the latest version, but when installed it turns out to be the beta as you say?

Don't know the why of what you are downloading and installing, from what link or internal updater; the version # displayed on your screenie shows 18 - ea - b03 - early release program - build 3.

Suggestion: To run the latest stable public release, uninstall that beta and reinstall the stable Update 17.

edit: did that last night (uninstalled 1.6.0_18) and couldn't install 1.6.0_17 i had to download jdk-6u17-windows-i586.exe for it to install onto my system.
