[CATV] New HD and SD channels for West Michigan
Got a flyer today about the additions and shuffling around of channels. I'll just note the additions as the shuffling is a lot to add.
HD additions:
MLB HD 694
USA HD 695
Speed HD 696
Fox News HD 697
FX HD 698
NatGeo HD 699
SD additions:
MGTV 995
CSPAN3 996
If anyone reading this doesn't have a set top box, you'll probably be pissed as 5 of your channels will be disappearing.

My uncles in Baraga will love that. They'd probably would have loved it more if Charter added this back during the season.
currious as to which channels Charter is moving from expanded basic.

I don't get why they don't add more mainstream HD channels like Bravo, MTV, E!, Comedy Channel, etc.... kinda annoying...

They're moving Speed, the 3 PEG channels, 3 of the religious channels, and CSPAN2 off the basic and basic expanded tiers. they did the same thing last year with TBS HD. they added it after the playoffs were over. Doesn't make any sense to me.

Public Educational Government (PEG) That's what they call them here.

I would say those channels are no more "mainstream" than any of the channels being added, except for maybe MLB HD, which I believe was part of a trade-off aggreement to keep the MLB Extra Innings package. Google "Nielsen Cable Network ratings" and take a look. USA, Fox News and FX are all in the top half of the list of most-watched cable networks. (USA was 2nd, Fox News 5th, FX 12th). The only channel you mentioned that came close was Comedy Central (16th). Bravo was 23rd. MTV and E! didn't even make the list.

I would have liked to see SyFy in HD just for Stargate Universe.

I don't think we have those

The reason why MLB Network gets to be on exanded basic and also got on the HD tier earlier than many networks have have existed for years is because Charter as well as other cable companies own a piece of that channel.

Actually that's completely incorrect. Firstly that reason could not have existed for years, since MLB Network only launched 11 months ago.
Secondly, Major League Baseball owns two thirds of MLB Network, and Directv, Comcast, Cox and Time Warner own one third between them. Charter does not own or even part-own any networks, except a few regional sports channels and local advertising/public access channels.

Wow, those HD channels are being placed in a weird location. The rest of the HD channels start at 763. The HD channels are going to be separated by a bunch of movie channels.

Could you scan the letter if possible, they don't mail us this stuff in the student apartment complexs since our complex foots the bill.

reading is fundamental. I didn't say MLB has existed for years. I'm saying OTHER networks that have existed for years still aren't on the HD tier. Just 2-3 months after we get MLB Network we get it on the HD tier? Meanwhile networks like Comdey Central, SyFy etc I'm still waiting on. Hmmm.
Secondly, Major League Baseball owns two thirds of MLB Network, and Directv, Comcast, Cox and Time Warner own one third between them. Charter does not own or even part-own any networks, except a few regional sports channels and local advertising/public access channels.
Oh my bad Charter was too stupid to accept a piece of the action. The fact remains the reason why those other cable companies own a piece was because that was the only way they would let MLB Network on their systems and on a basic tier. They didn't originally own a piece of the channel.

We are getting the HD channels only here in the UP along with the digital religion tier. The only channels being moved are the 3 religion channels we get now and speed.

I really am confused as to why they're adding these new HD channels in between the cinemax and showtime channels. That's odd as hell.
