[VA] Cox CATV issues (NOVA)

Is anyone in the NOVA area having the same issue I'm having? For some reason I'm only able to get analog channels on any of my TV's. ClearQAM channels are gone as well. I should also note that my DVR is unable to phone home to the mothership (cox).

I have ZERO channels right now, although my Cox internet is still working.

Game 6 of World Series starts in 2 hours with my beloved Phillies attempting to tie the series... looks like I'm heading to the bar for this.

I'm having the same issue here just outside of Alexandria. Any attempts to call the customer service line are useless, as well, as I only get a busy signal.

As of right now, there are 144 people in the queue ahead of me for an online chat representative.

Me too -- Annandale area.

Seem to be no SD channels. HD is working, at least the two or three I checked. EDIT: only a few HD channels work.

Internet just fine.

Cox Support telephone line has been busy for the last 20 minutes, and using the online chat at »support.cox.com/sdcxuser/asp/cox···page.asp does not work - "connection was reset" comes up after a loooong pause.

All clear QAM channels are down. Most HD or SD channels are down. The a few HD channels I tried that still work are Discovery HD, Discovery HD Theater, Science Ch, CNN and Fox News.

There must be something serious happened for Cox Fairfax. Luckily, internet is still up.

From the Cox network status page:

Northern Virginia

Connection Loss

Some customers in Northern Virginia may experience a loss of Video services. For those customers using a cable box if it is bypassed and a direct connection is made then channels 2-99 will be available.

Our technicians are aware and working to resolve the issue. Currently there is no estimated time of repair. 11/4/2009 7:23:38 PM

Re: [VA] Cox CATV issues (NOVA)

No NHL Centre Ice

Can't call the support number because it's busy (does cox use their own phone service, or something?)

Can't use the online chat tool because it eventually errors out with:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e31'

Timeout expired

/sdccommon/inc/db/dbcommon.inc, line 209
This is freaking great. I'm guessing won't get any kind of satisfactorily soon response to my email support request, either.

Fortunately, the HSI seems to be online so that I can get the information needed to contact all of the dead support channels.

Oh: isn't this the week that the Cox guy that answers questions here is on vacation? It's like they waited for him to leave to have this problem! ;)

Outage affecting residential and commercial video service in No. VA. Cox techs on site working to restore service. You can plug the coax cable from the wall directly into your TV set to get limited/expanded service. UPN is 33, NBC will be on channel 34, Fox (to watch the World Series game) is 35, ABC 37, CBS is 39. We’ll update you with our progress within the hour. We apologize for the inconvenience.

The over-the-air channels returned around 7pm. There are still what appear to be random channels missing. For instance, NFL Network HD has been available all night, but ESPN HD and ESPN2 HD are not available (also CSN, bad news for us Caps fans).

Anyone still missing the over-the-air channels?

Re: [VA] Cox CATV issues (NOVA)

Most of my services in Mt. Vernon seemed to back by around 10:00 PM. (although I didn't perform a channel-by-channel inventory)

However, I intentionally left one of my StdDef SA 3250 STBs untouched overnight to see if it would restart itself.

It didn't. :(

That STB required a manual power-off reboot to bring it back to life this AM @ 6:30.

It would seem that Cox would/should/could have performed this step as part of restoration ???

That said, Thanks to all the Cox personnel who were undoubtedly scrambling in Merrifield, Springfield, and at the various NOCs around the country to get things at least initially "semi-up" (analog only) and then fully restored as the evening progressed.

Also thanks to CoxNovaDOC for updating BBR users.

Re: [VA] Cox CATV issues (NOVA)

The reboot was part of the restoration. I am going to speculate that due to the volume, the hits might have timed out to some of the boxes. I have four set tops in my home and three of the four restored and one I had to manually reboot.

Cox Apology, Credit, Free Movie

Cox has announced that everyone gets a 6.99 credit this month.

Go here and you can also get a free OnDemand movie: »coxnovaoffer.com

EDIT: here is what they say at the above link:

said by Cox :
We let you down. You expected to turn on your television and sit down to watch the game or your favorite Wednesday night show. That probably didnt happen and I apologize for that. Some of our most vital equipment took a significant power hit, and when rebooted, much like a home computer, it did not come back on line properly. In spite of tremendous effort on the part of our best people, that reboot process took several hours and frankly, probably ruined your night. As your neighbor, I experienced the same in my home.

We are committed to you, our valued customer, and nothing is more important than rebuilding your trust in us by taking action to make things right. While such an outage has not occurred in the history of Cox Nova, we take this very seriously and are already working to ensure higher reliability of our video network as we completely review processes and emergency procedures so that you can enjoy your evenings uninterrupted.

Were going to credit your account with a free month of digital gateway service ($6.99). The credit will be automatically applied to your account, no need for you to do anything. We also hope you will take advantage of a free video on demand movie. See details below.

We appreciate having you as a customer, and I want you to know that my team and I worked through the night to be sure that this message was awaiting you when you started your day. It's important to us to do the right thing. My thanks for allowing us to serve you,

Janet Barnard

Re: [VA] Cox CATV issues (NOVA)

Hi everybody-- I wanted to give a quick update on our previous outage. We're working to finish the maintenance we did on Wednesday to bring our digital service back up. Between 12 am and 5 am tomorrow morning, we'll be doing some follow up maintenance. This will ensure higher reliability of the video network.

During this time, there's a possiblity that some channels may not be available for a short period of time. Also, DVR recordings may be interrupted during that time. And, if you are watching an On Demand movie, it may stop. If you purchased a movie/show On Demand, once it returns, you'll have the entire remaining window of your rental to view it.

Thanks again for your patience, and all of your feedback on this forum. We appreciate hearing from you. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to post them here. I'll be monitoring frequently throughout the night.

Hope everyone has a restful weekend!
