Well came home tonight to see the blue light on my Motorola SB6120. Ran a speed test with Cox's internal testing site and I'm getting a reported 88Mbps available bandwidth and able to run the speed test at over 70Mbps. :D

Have you tried downloading a large file to see if real world speeds improved? I may just have to go buy a Docsis 3 modem.

Yep, the speed increase is real. I wandered over to microsoft.com and grabbed some stuff. IE8, 16.1 MB came down in a second or two, showed 16.1 MB per second for the instant the download meter flashed on the screen.

I also grabbed the 316 MB download of XP SP3; that only took about a minute to download :o

That's the reason why we had a network outage last night. A cox technician had to come in our house move the modem to another room were there's no cable tv connection. The he installed my modem and router on that room. Which sucks because right now I'm using wireless connection. I have linksys cm100 can i get the same speed results that you guys got?

I'm on the Premier tier. We're located in Green Valley; no idea if the rollout is valley wide or how soon it will be at this point. There's no other news available anywhere regarding this, at least as of last night. I'm guessing it's just in the testing phase and it won't be long before they offer the increased speed at an equivalent increase in price.

I'm sure they're upgrading the nodes a few at a time. They probably don't have the ability to reconfigure the entire network at once.

Yea Im getting these insane speeds too, noticed it just this week, living in 89102 - Desert Inn / Decatur area.

I got the new Motorola Surfboard Extreme picked up from Fry's about 2 months ago. Cost about $99

The other day I almost broke 100 during the test :p

My whole network is Gigabit Router/Switch and all using 550MHz CAT6 cables from Fry's. Even the Motorola Modem has Gigabit connection.

Nice! I think I'm getting bound up by my router. Everything here is GB switched with the exception of the LAN port on the router which is still 100 mbit. Who ever though that would be an issue :D

I bought the same modem at Frys around the same time when my Webstar POS died. I figured I might as well spring for the extra money since D3 would get here sooner or later ;)

The Telephone Modem is only DOCSIS 1.5 or 2.0...etc. You'll have to purchase a seperate DOCSIS 3.0 modem and just use that for your internet.

There arent any VIOP Telephone modems that I know of that are 3.0 and would be very expensive or not supported by Cox.

You are basically getting that VOIP modem for free because of your phone service. Just get the Motorola modem, then call up Cox and tell them you want to provision the new Modem for Internet and you are all set. Keep the existing VOIP modem for just your telephone.

Edit: To save headaches and double trip back to Fry's, NEVER EVER purchase any modems form Fry's with an Orange sticker on it.

Basically, that modem was once used and returned and the serial number is registered with Cox. There is no way in hell Cox will add that modem to your account. You'll be forced to go back to Fry's and exchange it for new Modem.

Looking in DSLreports speed testing archives I do not find anyone has posted or recorded these type of results... Could someone run a flash and java test? Remember the archives let others see your three fastest speed test archive. The archives tests are valuable research for people inside and outside the area...

To clarify: I would need to run both modems if I choose to go with the 6120? Is that even possible? If that's the case, my other problem is that since I don't have Cox Digital Cable, I would need a tech to come out to wire up another coax outlet for me.

Yes you would need two modems for both phone and internet, they will just use there modem for VOIP only, and your 6120 just for internet. All you need if your in the same room with both phone and internet, is a splitter, and two short pieces of cable to run to both modems.

Well there is no D3 modem with VOIP support. so everyone with D3 modems have two modems running until they released a modem with support for both.

I bought mine at Fry's for like $99. There should be a nice stock pile of them. They are not by the D-Link/Linksys Router and Modem isle.

They are on the other side of the store near the Laptops and Printers. Somehow there are 2 different isles that carry Modems.

Yes it is, if they want to take advantage of a DOCSIS 3.0 speed increase they would need to use the CDT modem only for telephone and have Cox disable the data on that modem and provision the data only modem (6120) for internet.

Great to see the speeds you're posting, ZoSo, although I must confess to a bit of jealousy. I've had my SB6120 since May and can rarely get the Premier Plus performance I pay for--25/2 :(

Awhile back, Cox cautioned us regarding the need for gear rated 5 to 1000 MHz, due to the pending system-wide EON (GHz) upgrade. I know this applies to everything on the coax side of the modem (cabling, splitters, splices etc) but I'm too HSI-ignorant to say regarding the customer side of the modem. However, I bet if you browse to the Signal tab of your modem's Configuration Manager, »192.168.100.1/cmSignal.htm, you'll find that your downstream bonded frequencies are at least 800MHz.

I appreciate the info gentlemen. I went to fry's and picked up the 6120. Installed I get a blue "link" which dictates a bonded channel. Real world tests show my same 14Mbit cap when saturated. Speedtest.net showed 49.8Mbit *shrugs* I will wait to see if the new firmware pushed from cox will allow me the bonded speeds.

That's an interesting Speedtest site. Here is what I got off it doing 12MB file

25516 Kbps or 25.5 Mbps (3115 kB/s)

Not sure where that site is located, Im guessing on the east coast? Few days ago I was downloading some files 350MB file and my speed was about 45 Mbps steady the whole time and finished in about 3 minutes.

Speedtest.net results are a bit fishy, but I like the results :) Got this just now

From looking at your modem I suspect the speed test result is the correct value and your "real world" result is the result if the other end of the connection being slower than you are.

I think preliminarily that to be a false statement.
My test was conducted using 20 tcp connections to two different geographic locations. When the link is saturated my icmp(ping) latency grows from sub 10ms (to a cox server to negate external network congestion) to ~300ms. To show the throttling at the modem/node I will provide the tracert and then a ping to my modem to show the latency is not artificially generated due to firewall. (this is with the transfer test running)

Has any one checked the Usenet and have a perception of download speed change using the a Motorola SB6120 w/Docsis 3 working?

Torrent download and uploads speeds? (i do Linux operating systems & 16:9 ratio wallpaper pack torrents)?

Does the quality of third party internet phones improve or degrade? I have a $15 per month unlimited long distance and almost almost free international internet phone with crystal clear service I would not want to change.

I see we have some Vegas DSLreport zip code speed tests - Thanks Guys...

Well, consistently got standard 14mbit over many gigs of transfers saturated. Decided to see if my speed "issue" was signal related, as a precursor I did a reset modem to defaults and a reboot. Upon restart and retraining, started receiving ~20mbit consistently(not counting powerboost). I then moved the modem one hop closer to main splitter and gained no speed increases(also tried a default reset here too). I think either the tftp config file changed or something to do with the picking of channels changed.

Spacefunk, slowdown you could see faster speeds, but that all depends on if your area has launched a D3 speed tier, or if they are still in testing stages of D3, if they are in testing stages you could see up to 50mbps(6.25mb's), if they are selling D3 speeds already, then your most likely only gunna see what your paying for. But you can benefit from bonded channels with more steady speeds, with less slowdowns.

The web page indicate Vegas has two speed levels and the top tier will be moving from 12 Mbps to 18 Mbps, rather than the great results everyone is experiencing during the Docsis 3 testing period...

Power boost is not included in these numbers I am quoting from the website, so it appears there is no pricing for residential 50 Mbps 0r 100 Mbps service coming to Vegas?

But there seems to be some hope in the discussions here on DSLreports? Or am I just a continual optimist that Vegas, can join Southern CA, and Az for quicker speeds...

No pricing yet because its still in the testing stages for cox. No reason for them to rush the new speeds out to just have customers complain things aint going well. So in these D3 area's they will do there testing, and allow the people on there higher speed tier, with D3 modems, to test and get these fast speeds. I would be surprised by this time next month if they haven't announced D3 in this area.

New modem setup & called in numbers to Cox, requesting software push for the SB6120 - Current test is in the lower end of what I get normally, maybe the testing has not been activated or I have not received the modem upgrade everyone is discussing...

red-link

Foldout indicates Receive and Send are blue for a bonded channel connection, and the link light is blue for high speed Ethernet Connection...

Thought I inquired about routers, but haven't received a response... I am using a wireless Linksys - Wireless G is disabled all computers are using wire...

Link light will only be blue if your router supports gigabyte, or if your direct connected to pc with a gigabyte NIC. The link light is orange btw, if that red im blind.

Was red on mine... OK, maybe a reddish/orange, but directly connected the the motherboard it is blue... In Chat with Linksys my Modem is far to old to get a firmware update to work with Docsis 3... Must step up and acquire another unit...

$60 - TRENDnet TEW-672GR Dual Band Wireless N Gigabit Router sold out!
Newegg is very low priced compared to Fry's Electronics on this Gigabit Router... But again only 56% 4 eggs or better for customer reviews... Wireless seems to be most of the disappointment.

Can not use OpenWRT/DD-WRT/Tomato/etc. However, this Router has a mechanical switch for wireless, that is a nice touch...
