Where did Fox HD go?
I have had FOX HD for quite some time, a few weeks, now its gone. Really odd. In just the month and a half I have had this Sony 40 inch HDTV my lineup has changed more then in the last 5 years. Makes it tough to know what is where (Mediacom does not seem to think having a freking lineup on the website is a good thing, go figure)
I even have one of those TV listing apps on my Ipod, does no good since it never finds the digital channels.

Re: Where did Fox HD go?
By the way, I have BASIC Mediacom cable, which means I am about at amoeba level on the Mediacom subscriber food chain. That could be part of the issue, but it would be nice to find SOME kinda listing on WHAT we are supposed to have and WHERE! I get NBC, ABC, CBS and a few IPTV channels in HD. Used to get about 20 channels of ESPN radio (if you can explain that one you get a cookie) Not sad to see THAT monument to redundancy go away.
The channels are all over the place, almost none of them have titles so you guessing until you can figure out what it is, and once you get things figured out they move. wth?

Re: Where did Fox HD go?
Channels broadcast in the clear will move as they need to make room for different things on the network. If you had a box, they get mapped to a 'normal' channel and you never see the movement. Some channels get broadcast in the clear as they add channels, then they will be removed as they are encrypted. Having a QAM tuner in your TV is also not usually supported by any MSO and they won't provide you a lineup for the reason you stated, the channels move. You just need to rescan your TV and see what you pickup. You are getting the HD "free", so you really can't complain.

those of us on basic dont get it for free, we pay. sure not as much as folks that have every single package mediacom has. but we still pay and our fee goes to maintain the same network you use.

Re: Where did Fox HD go?
Mediacom (and other cable providers) only have an obligation to carry in clear-QAM the signals (which may or may not be HD) for over-the-air "must carry" stations in your market area, which typically means the major networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, plus local PBS). Even these stations may not be "in the clear" if the station has separately chosen to opt-out of must-carry, such as KGAN-CBS as owned by the Sinclair network. And must carry rules don't require the signal to be necessarily be HD to the basic customers, but typically extends to analog signals only. Fox is also an oddity, in that not all markets have a Fox stations that is receivable over the air. For instance, over here in Dubuque (far eastern Iowa), I cannot receive the Cedar Falls/Waterloo Fox station over the air as their signal isn't strong enough.
In other words, I believe Mediacom has the right in certain markets to encrypt Fox and require the user to rent an HD DCT to receive it. I don't know enough about Mason City to anticipate your situation.

Re: Where did Fox HD go?
People without a HD DCT or a cable card receive no HD channels. No trouble calls will be set up and even if you get lucky, chances are a tech will close the job without even calling you (due to customer service error).
If you want HD programming you need to get a HD DCT or a cable card.
Do you guys honestly expect support for a service you are not subscribed to?

Re: Where did Fox HD go?
I have CBS ABC NBC and IPT in HD (NBC is 1080i the others are 720p) I had Fox in HD on Sunday (last time I looked) but now its saying "channel not available.
So you can get HD with basic, just good luck finding the damn channels from one day to the next.

Instead of coming here and whining about it just run the auto-scan and be done. Geez, some people aren't happy unless they're unhappy.

Re: Where did Fox HD go?
Just as an exapmle I had the world series on Fox in HD before last night, but last night no go. So in a matter of 2 days it went buh-bye. Re-scanning kinda sucks since you cant just do it and tell your TV to shut off when done, so you need to be there for a good hour until its done. Would really be nice if the TV had a "shut off after done scanning" option.

Re: Where did Fox HD go?
Another piece that needs to be mentioned again is that if a person is paying only for broadcast basic (i.e, the lower-most channels up to 23 or so), then there is also a filter on your drop that is blocking the reception of signals on frequencies above that cutoff. This means that any signals that Mediacom intends all TV customers to receive in the clear, analog or digital, regardless of the level of subscribed service (broadcast basic or Family), then they need to be within the frequency range in the lowest tier. Those signals that Mediacom wants only Family subscribers to get will be above that cutoff.

Wow that's helpful... here pay an extra $10 a month for a box when you get the channels anyways over clear qam.
Aren't you guys in the middle of a box shortage anyways?

It looks like some people missed the point.
Mediacom does not care if you can get clearQAM or not. As far as Mediacom is concerned you guys don't have HD programming.

Bingo - this goes for any cable company. Yeah, you pick it up, but if you call in for a trouble call about it, you likely won't see much support as it's not in your service tier, hence the "free" comment.
Re-scan your TV and enjoy something you are getting that other pay for more for.

Re: Where did Fox HD go?
That might be, but a call to the local franchise authority can get this turned around. In my case, I had to file a formal complaint with the FCC but I got it fixed for my area. The law is that all local stations that are carried in basic must be available in clear QAM once carried. I'm a few weeks away from getting ImOn and sounds like I'll be doing the same thing with them since they don't have KWWL in the clear.
This is not an option. Call the franchise authority and have them put the screws to Mediacoms nuts, so to speak. I do enjoy watching the Meidacom apologists on this board squeem!

in Des Moines Mediacom carries Qubo and ION Life on the Digital + Tier Does that mean since technically they are free over the air digitally they should carry them in the "basic" tier?
please help me understand or does must carry not apply?

Must carry only applies to local stations that are must carries. I doubt either of those are must carries in your area. This is mostly limited to major networks / news channels designed idealy to keep viewers connected with local/national news and events. The guy above just about has it right, but it's a little more complicated than how it's explained.
