[HSI] Rapidshare speeds? 20mb/2mb package.. seems like throttlin
hey guys, I've had the 10mb/1mb package for quite some time and always got good speeds when downloading from rapidshare, sometimes 8-900kb/s. Now that I switched to the 20mb/2mb package, It will burst to like 400kb/s and then settle to around 200kb/s, but usually below. I've also tried using their different connections - Cogent, Teliasonera, Level3, etc, all with the same results
Speedtests are fine, and I can download from other places at ~2400kb/s, so its not my connection
is Charter throttling rapidshare on the 20mb packages? it sure seems like it

Has nothing to do with Charter. If you are using the free portion of rapidshare. It is capped. If using paid. It is uncapped.

Nothing to do with Charter, Rapidshare rarely gives you great speeds, especially on free accounts. Premium accounts may get better speeds if they use a download manager that downloads multiple parts of the file at the same time.

Ok, nevermind.. I reset the modem and it's back to normal now. Kinda weird that only rapidshare would be slow and everything else was fine

Doubtful if resetting your modem had anything to do with it also, especially if only Rapidshare was affected.
5 hours difference in your post times could've made a lot of difference in Rapidshares trafficking also. Speeds usually do slow down on there during peak times.

Oh, trust me, I know what you're saying.. I work in IT and would have told someone else that they were crazy to think resetting a modem would fix a rapidshare speed issue, but I had tested during the day, evening, and even in the wee hours of the morning and still got crap speeds. This went on for 3 days before I decided to try resetting the modem
I tested it before and after I reset the modem (5 minutes) and the speed went from barely staying above 200kb/s to over 1100kb/s in speeds. I don't know why resetting the modem helped, but it honestly fixed the issue. It was really strange since I was hitting 20mb on speedtests

resetting the modem did not resolve your issue. Trust me, I "work in IT" too :/
