[Need Info] Paragon Partition Magic 10

I installed this on my wife's laptop. When I tried to create a partition I got an error message saying it couldn't find enough room on C drive to create a partition. The drive is 60 gigs with only 10 being used. I've used this product before and never had this happen. Could it be because of the recovery and diagnostic partitions that come with a Dell. Any suggestions including other software to try would be appreciated. Thanks

Most all partition software works the same. To to create a partition.

a. You have to have unallocated space already there.
b. Shrink a current partition to free up unallocated space.
c. Delete a current partition to obtain unallocated space.

-Just for the info I'm sure your talking about Paragon Partition Manager. Partition Magic was made by PowerQuest and was probably the best program of it's kind for many years. It was then bought out by Symantec, ruined and made irrelevant.

Yes it is Partition Manager. My bad. I'll try to play with it more later. It just doesn't make sense to me that a drive that is less than 20% filled can't be partitioned. Only a small fraction are listed as unmovable.

Is it possible you already have 4 primary partitions (or 3 primary + 1 extended partitions) on his drive? If so you have to delete any existing unimportant partitions or resize them.

This is not a rehearsal.

How much of the disk is marked "unallocated". "Free space" within a partition doesn't count.

The software doesn't know what you want to do. You have to know that first and the steps it takes to get there, then tell the software to perform those steps. Or Press the F1 key and read the help. ;)

NOTE: Back up the entire drive before running *any* Partition Management software as the 10% of the time that there is an issue or problem, that is the time that you didn't have a recent backup image of your original setup to go back to. :[
