[Internet] Speed Test Results
I'm on a 10 Mbps package, my connection seems slow today though the test results say otherwise - anyone else ?
Edit to add:
Disregard post, was an AV issue, now tweaked out.
• Mod lock is OK by me.

What is your setup and what's your ping time?

2Wire 2701 HG-G, Ping appears to be 10ms, based on posted results.

Speed tests can be funny things. Here are three of mine on a 5056/800 profile:

Which is most accurate? Take your profile and knock of 15% for overhead and you are close.

I would not describe that speed test as accurate! :o

It's accurate to the host site certainly, but it's no good for measuring the speed of your connection to Bell's network which is probably of far greater concern.

Yes, Speed Tests are a funky thing DKS
I've tried to add this »www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ to the FAQ previously but sbrook seems to not
like this particular test, though it's the most consitent for me though the closest server is far away.
Edit to add:
See last from above below:

So much for URL shorteners :uhh: Disregard

Re: [Internet] Speed Test Results
I am not a Bell Canada FAQ maintainer ... so this speedtest not appearing is nothing to do with me.
That said, your link takes one to Speakeasy's speedtest site in Seattle. I get over 15Mbps with Rogers speedboost on a speedtest relatively local to Toronto, but with that speakeasy test, I get 3.5. Something to do with nearly 3000 miles of cables, and multiple routers and congested links between here and Seattle!
Which tells me the speed of my actual line to Rogers? the 15Mbps test. Which tells me the speed I'd get if I downloaded something from a Speakeasy client in Seattle? The speakeasy one. The Speakeasy one will only tell me that I am getting at least 3.5 Mbps on my line.
To go with YACA (Yet Another Car Analogy), saying I can do an average of 60km/hr on a trip between here and Vancouver tells me nothing about how fast I can go from here to the end of my street, or the maximum speed I can get on the 401, or the maximum speed of my car!

It's not accurate at all, given that I have a 5 meg profile.

Again, as I have a 5 meg profile, this speed test is completely inaccurate.

DKS, that's a Java bug not a problem with the Speedtest site.

yes, I know. And it's never been fixed in years. My point is that no matter what the cause, your speed test is suspect if it's higher than your profile. BTW, one of those is Bell's own speed test site.
