I was a MediaCom customer about 2 years ago. The network was oversold and after months of tech support nightmares I gave up and went back to DSL. Last week I decided to give MediaCom another try. Things were relatively good all week. I was typially at 11M/900k. There was a little slow down during peak times, but not much. As usual, though, Friday night's Xbox was the real test and it failed miserably.

I could not get into a game of COD4 with four bars (always 3). I tested my speed and it was always around 3-5M/500-900k. I don't care about the speed so much, but pings to google.com (my baseline) were very, very high as well as erratic latency and dropping. I really want the extra BW, but not at the cost of latency. I switched my router back to DSL last night and was in 4 bar games for the rest of the night.

So I know I don't have signal integrity issues since it's a peak time issue. I want to give MediaCom a chance to fix this, but I don't want to go through the headaches I went through before trying to talk to someone that knows what they're doing. I definitely don't want to take off of work for a tech to come out and tell me what I already know about my line being in good shape.

So what's the quickest way for me to try to resolve this? Are there even options for me? Are there channels or node splits that can be done? Am I going to waste my time again if I try to resolve my issues?

I would send a pm to mediacomjoel and have him take a look. Its prob a congested down port.
