Re: textmode - bugs reports and suggestions topic

I don't recall I'd I asked this before but even if I did, it would be convenient I'd there was a way to Start Following a thread in text mode. Often there I times when I'm viewing a thread on my BB and though I'm not posting at that moment, I'd like to follow it.

If feasible, I'm guessing up next to Add Reply at the top of the thread would be the likely place.

I don't really think a Stop Following is needed as much.

Re: textmode - bugs reports and suggestions topic

I too would like to see a 'posted while mobile' tag on my posts. I agree with it sounding pretentious for me to have to include that in my posts. As well, it would also explain to my fellow posters why my mobile posts are either very short or my spelling and grammar aren't up to my usual standards. ;)

The speedtest also doesn't work for me on my 7130e, as the result comes back too fast.

I would also like to see the top page links replicated at the bottom of the page so I don't have to scroll all the way up to the top of the page for a selection. Also, in multi-page threads, it would be much better to have the extra page links at the bottom again, for easier navigation.

I too would like to be directed to either the 'my posts' or 'my forums' page after posting.

Oh, and can we fix how quoted posts are displayed in lo-fi? If a poster uses the quote tag, you can clearly see what's the quote and what's the subsequent post. If they use the default bquote tag, all the text blurs into each other with no easy way to tell who said what.

I think that's all for now.

Cheers.

I agree very strongly on this, I browse on the Lo-Fi and it's very annoying having to scroll down so many times to click on what I need to click.

And I agree on the posting tag of posting while on a mobile device, my posts are all short while on the mobile.

Re: textmode - bugs reports and suggestions topic

Hmm.. odd. I just checked it from my computer, went to text.dslreports.om, and logged out.
Found a forum, and looked at a last link. The hyper reference is indeed showing as text.dslreports.com/..., but when you actually click on the link, it (usually) directs you to the regular www.dslreports.com version. I was just messing around on the very first forum on the list, VOIP Tech Chat. I clicked all the [last] links that were visible. Almost all of them went to regular www.dslreports.com, with a few exceptions. This is one of the threads that worked correctly

[ViaTalk] [ViaTalk] Trouble calling T-Mobile number with Via..

this is another one

VoipDiscount with Asterisk problem

Like I said, all the other ones I checked, despite saying they would take me to the correct site when looking @ the bottom left of the browser when hovering over the link, actually took me to www.dslreports.com

Okay, been looking @ the source, and although I don't know much about html, I can see that the ones that work all have the tag (or whatever it's called) start=0 at the end. Whenever start is anything but 0, it takes me to www.dslreports.com... when start=0, it goes correctly to text.dslreports.com. Tested this on the only three start=0 links I could find and it confirmed my theory

Yes it was you.
(Way back in this thread I've read through.)

And yes please what GeekNJ said.

I am beginning to use Mobile 5.0 with IE on a Dell Axim x51v

Also The use Lo-Fi link should have a corresponding use Hi-Fi link, and at least when logged in as a member, toggle you between the two modes on page you are viewing.

It is easier to read and such in lo-fi, but the lack of a follow link and such ... since IE can use either, this would be a handy work-around for now. And it would be just practical.

Also tweaked textmode a bit more, while I was in that area.

By the way if anyone uses a blackberry and knows a site that formats well (with good readable small text) on their cruddy annoying proxy-server driven browser, please post the site so I can copy whatever CSS they used to get it to look that way.

Could it be one of your privacy settings? While I didn't use it once I installed Opera Mobile, IE had no problem saving my dslr cookies on my mda. Now you mention that your closing ie when programs normally go into minimize where the os will close them if additional memory is needed, could it be that the method your closing the program is causing not to write the cookies to the flash storage?

If it was free I would suggest using Opera Mobile, but you can at least use it for the trial period.

Re: textmode - bugs reports and suggestions topic

Samsung BlackJack, Cingular/AT&T.

Site works great on it!
Two errors I noted:

When doing the speed test, and you click "again", it automatically brings you to WAP mode. I was testing in HTML mode to begin with.

Also....pretty serious bug if you are going to rely on ANY speed tests for the mobile. This is regarding the "your IP" link:

If I use Cingular's proxy (as is default for the "media max" bundles, and if you use any cingular video it's required), I get a 209.183.32.X address.

If I use a direct internet connection (NO proxy, using Edge network on the phone - no wireless or sync to any PC), i get a 166.196.51.X address.

That's not a problem - the problem is that the 209.183.32.X address has a rDNS entry of *.mycingular.net. At the "your IP", it correctly identifies "DNS: mycingular.net"

The 166.196.51.X has NO rDNS (as verified on a Savvis provided DNS, OptOnline DNS, and Level 3 DNS) - yet "DNS: myvzw.com" appears at the link!

Arin lists the 209. as a Cingular owned subnet.

Arin lists the 166. as "Service Provider Corporation" owned - NOT Verizons.

I'm not sure if this is an oversight.....but If the mobile speed tests are to be taken serious, I think that any 166.128.0.0/9 address should not automatically be identified as myvzw.com, as they service Cingular, Verizon, alltel and a handful of providers throughout the world which are capable of being in that subnet.

1. Press the BlackBerry button (seven black dots)

3. Select "Browser Configuration"
4. Highlight the check boxes next to
? Support HTML tables
? Support Javascript
? Use Background and Foreground colors
? Use Background Images
? Support CSS/Style Sheets     For newer BlackBerry's also set:
? Style Sheets media type = screen
? Show images = WML & HTML Pages
? Emulation Mode = BlackBerry  ? Content Mode = WML & HTML5. Press the BlackBerry button (seven black dots)
6. Select "Save Options"

And look at the difference.

Possibly cached on your end? I used it throughout the weekend on my Blackberry and it was fine though I don't know if I specifically went to the home page vs the posts and fav forums pages.

I just went to text.dslreports.com on my web browser (don't have my phone on me at the moment) and it comes up fine.

the way I fixed that was by logging into the non low-fi version using my phone then clicking on "use low-fi version". Once I had a login cookie, I was able to use text.dslreports

I tried to access the site via my LG CU500v cell phone... I can read the site just fine... but if I go to sign in I get a "Requested Page could not be found" after putting in my username and password.

Could that be a cookie problem with my phone?

But if I use m.comcast.net for my email... even after several house my phone keeps me signed in on that one...

Any ideas?

When I try to run the mobile speedtest on my blackberry, it says the test is not compatible with the BB browser because the browser doesn't support javascript. But my T-mo BB Curve DOES support js!

Can we make the mobile speed test be friends with Blackberries?

How hard would it be to make an iPhone version of the site out of the text version? Seems like a liberal application of CSS magic over what appears to be pretty well organized data would make a juicy iPhone friendly site.

Blackberry text mode problems with sticky topics

Hi Justin -

I have been having problems again with BlackBerry [ATT] and being able to access and even SEE the stickies especially in the Security Forum.

Is there a trick to this - I often need to use my BB to access the Security Updates Sticky on Mondays when I host.

EDIT TO ADD: IF I use OPERA in NON-text mode I can see and post to stickies. BUT NO STICKY TOPICS appear in ANY forum with ANY BROWSER using BB in TEXT mode. [Currently using laptop to post back this info]
ALSO Can NOT reply to today's sticky in any browser using text mode or regular mode even though I can click post a reply it will not load reply page....
Thanks for any tips or info :)

I was also unable to edit or post to any sticky topics in NON text mode using Blackberry with Opera or any other browser.

I am the Monday host of the Security Updates sticky each week and lately I have been traveling ALOT and need to keep up using blackberry if at all possible,

I was able to update in text mode prior to November with no problem. This began after a java update related to Navigator major update while I was in Houston over Christmas.

I even tried to reply to a non sticky topic in a hidden forum and could not do that either.

Just wanted to be clear :)

Re: textmode - bugs reports and suggestions topic

I just got a Samsung Propel on AT&T's 3G network and I've been having two distinct problems with the text version of the site.

Login Difficulties:
Perhaps the most problematic of the issues is that I can't login using the text version. I have to login to the WWW site (which isn't just slow to load, but uses quite a bit more data transfer) and transfer to the "lo-fi" version.

There is also a problem in reconfirming stale cookies. After not having visited while mobile for a few days, text mode attempts to confirm your password just like the WWW site, only it never confirms. I enter my password and it continually brings me back to the confirmation page no matter what links I click.

Instant Messages:
I can view site instant messages just fine, but sending them fails. I don't have the error message handy at the moment, but I can provide more detail if this problem is unfamiliar.

Re: textmode - bugs reports and suggestions topic

Using the Blackberry browser I get stuck in an endless loop of password check => enter password => please logout first => password check => enter password => please logout first. I see my buddies listed, the speedtest link takes me to a page which says the browser is not compatible but everything else wants the password check.

If I try hitting the logout link I end up in another endless loop => password check => logout => password check => logout. Am never shown as logged out.

Opera mini works OK on this site but clunkier (IMO) for most things.

I had to 'kill' all login sessions for any Blackberry logins using broadband connection in order to stop that endless log in stuff.
And then log out each time I go off Blackberry and dslr.

Obviously not a permanent solution but it's a work around til something's changed :)

I have to log out and kill the cookie from another IP or computer.

Go to Members and LogIn History and kill any active session cookies. :)

Hope this helps :)
