Rollout Schedule???

Oops, Please move this under the 16/1 topic.

I was wondering if anyone had seen a rollout schedule... it seems that some areas are receiving this speed update before others. Particularly the areas where there is competition from Verizon, or other cable companies providing faster service for less money. I was told by my local Comcast office that they would be rolling the service out in our area as of today. However where I am located we have not received the speed upgrade. Thanks.

Re: Rollout Schedule???

My source tells me these areas are nexted for the 16/1 speed upgrade testing phase.
1.Sarasota,Fla.
2.Fort Wayne,ID.
3.Howard County,Maryland
(a western Baltimore suburb.
All of these are FIOS areas.
There will be more areas added as time goes by,but they will all be FIOS areas

I know its not what you want to here,but don't look for an official nationwide roll-out until summer 2006.

I'm in favor of a distributed rollout for this, since the upgrade to 8mbps was not exactly fun. And here's a big FU to VZ for not offering FIOS to the capitol of the state that gave them all kinds of breaks here....

16/1 is still a joke compare to what Optimum Online and RCN are offering. I wish I lived in the area of Chicago that gets served by RCN, sadly I don't so all I have is Comcast.

See the thread »comcast bought by time warner ( culver city california?) -- especially the spreadsheet in the 5th post showing who goes where. Note the second and third worksheets in the workbook as well -- for example, showing that Comcast ends up with no customers in Los Angeles after the switches, so I know that I'm going to TW no matter what.

This is good to know. When does the testing phase start as I am still 6/384k?

BTW, it's Fort Wayne, IN (or Ind). I know; I live there. :)

Re: Rollout Schedule???

You have to be on the Gold tier 8000/768 to see the 16/1 tier.The silver package like you have just gets a raise in the upload.6000/768.:)
Sorry about the mistake on state ID.

Now that would be an upgrade. Never felt like the 10 dollars extra for 2 megs would be worth it. For 10 megs extra no that is a different story.

Re: Rollout Schedule???

There has been a few rumors floating around about speeds going to 10megs download speeds for the silver package and 12megs download for the Gold.
I can only say my source hasn't heard about these speeds.
Its still planned for 16/1 for Gold and 6000/768 for Silver.
I know there are some who still have 4000/384 and i can't tell you anything about them.
Its still along time to summer a lot of things can change in that time.

Re: Rollout Schedule???

FWIW, Comcast isn't the only one furiously following FiOS's freeway of speed upgrades. Cablevision is also doing their 15/2 upgrades in FiOS-enabled areas first with plans to have everyone upgraded by June. Where I live, the fiber is strung (VZ announced our town in November), but since most of the town is buried cable, they have yet to dig. The interesting part is that Cablevision's head-end for my system is in my town (like 2½ miles away) and it looks like we're going to be last to see the upgrade.

Because Connecticut had to be independent and buck the east coast Bell Atlantic takeover after Ma Bell was broken up in 1984. SNET was formed and stayed furiously independent until SBC made them an offer they couldn't refuse. In the greatest of ironies, that so-called independence now has caused Connecticut to be part of AT&T again.

Had SNET joined up with Bell Atlantic or Nynex, you'd see fiber being strung in your neighborhood (or at least nearby) now.

i really hope they dont just plan to raise the upload only of the 6mb package-i can sort of understand y theyre doing it though-theyre hoping that more people will upgrade to 16 so they can make more money-greed as usual :huh: they should double all dl speeds like theyve done in the past

4x2 != 6 and
6x2 != 8
your logic is incorrect. i think the 6mbit tier is fine because even for a power user, 6mbits of download is fine. if you do a lot of downloading you will pay the extra $10 but the upload speed was my biggest complaint when i was on the 6mbit tier.

Re: Rollout Schedule???

oya, im thinking back when they went from 1.5mb to 3mb-then they went from 3mb to 4 and 6-then to 6 and 8(or something like that)-still though, i think they should increase both upload and download for all tiers like theyve always done
