Re: [General] HYBRID 2 and HYBRID 1
Hybrid #1 - Standard Hybrid: Straight Cable without bridged taps
Hybrid #2 - 0-1000' Bridged taps or in home wiring tap located 0 to 50' from modem
Can't say why it would be switching back and forth. Do you have a POTS splitter-home run or are you using microfilters?

Re: [General] HYBRID 2 and HYBRID 1
Thanks for the explanation. I'm using a POTS splitter-home run.

Re: [General] HYBRID 2 and HYBRID 1
Hmmm... You shouldn't be seeing Hybrid 2 with that. Is your sync stable? Were those sync drops intentional?
Maybe your POTS splitter is dying and causing the modem to see the POTS-side wiring as a bridge tap and report Hybrid 2.

Re: [General] HYBRID 2 and HYBRID 1
No the sync drops were not intentional. The POTS is in direct sunlight all day and now that I think about it, my sync problems started soon after the weather turned hot. If I can find my spare splitter, I will give it a try. Thanks for the help.

Re: [General] HYBRID 2 and HYBRID 1
You were right it was a "dying" splitter. I replaced the POTS splitter and now no more sync drops. :)

Re: [General] HYBRID 2 and HYBRID 1
Well cool. Glad that worked out for you. There has always been a question of just how does one know if a failing splitter could be causing sync drops and now we know.
What type of splitter was it and how long had it been in use? There have been questions about how long these things are supposed to last before failing or at least how long those that have been reported as failing have lasted. Thanks.

The bad splitter is a Bourns ADSL Splitter 3612. I think it's around 2 years old.

It's good that you had a spare splitter to test with. I doubt that most folks have one lying around. I had mine installed by a tech (I got screwed around so long with lies and such that when I got hold of some higher level folks they gave me a free technician install so I went with it and got the splitter tossed in.) I would hope that, should my splitter fail, it would be replaced for free.
