I have 2 DVR boxes. One is correct and the other is still off by an hour. Do you know how I direct the "hit" to the right box?

Here in Allen, my connection has been solid and speed has been good. I had a sustained DL last week of well over 800kB/s (I don't have any special speed upgrade). I do see substantial latency on regular occasions which I find annoying.

That's pretty much how I feel, they surprised us when the channels came on, but as far as I know they never officially announced them, never announced that they would be in a higher tier, then one day they just went away again. Actually they've gone away two or three times for me before the last time.
I really didn't have a problem with the $3, I think HDNet has some great demo stuff and I am even hooked on a few shows on UHD (Surface, L&O SVU, Sons and Daughters, Jake 2.0). Its just the poor communication that irks me. But I don't think I can get anything like what they do offer for any less, especially considering being able to dump some of the channels by firewire to the computer for saving.

You know the thing that really baffles me is the fact that (in theory) TW actually has a great product to market. I have not had any problems at all as far as service going down. It's extremely reliable... for me at least. You don't have to put an ugly dish up on your roof. You don't have to worry about the picture going out when it rains. etc.

It all comes down to customer service. As with many cable/dish companies, the service level and the way they communicate with customers in general totally sucks. The "suits" sit up there in their high-rises trying to come up with different gimicks to lure in new customers... when all the while, if they just concentrated on the way they communicate with their core customers, they would have more new customers than they new what to do with.

All of these companies want instant gratification and instant sales... and they are constantly creating future problems with their so-called quick fixes. They don't understand that the industry is there for the taking... customers are just waiting for a quality company to give their money to. They need to realize that the industry as a whole needs more than just a band-aid... it needs major surgery... but that major surgery would fix all of the headaches for years and years to come.

Just give customers what they want... a competitively priced service that doesn't "nickel and dime" them... great customer service and do a better job of communicating current happenings and future plans (area upgrades, pursuit of new channels, etc.)

It's just that simple.

Because the number of HD channels is currently a little better on TWC, I'll probably pay their measly $3 to get HDNet and UHD back. At least until DTV gets their new satellites launched and really puts some content out there. Then, if TWC hasn't stayed competitive I'll may jump - or by then Uverse may be in my area (Dallas A/B). So for now I'm stuck with a substandard DVR (one tuner) and poor cable (HD freezes all the time). It has gotten so bad that I now have an antenna up to get locals when TWC quits. By the way, the HDPQ from the antenna is surperior to what my 6208 puts out and 5 seconds ahead.

AT&T Uverse

I just signed up myself, after I found it it would be much later this year for the upgrade in 75238. (you can check yourself at »www.timewarnercable.com/dallas/r···nu=12812)

It also makes sense for me, since I live right across the street from the AT&T CO. On the few occasions I have called to upgrade service, they always say the same thing - "that is the shortest line distance I have seen in the system". So no downside to me, I only have one HDTV, and I like being able to record 4 channels of SD or 1 of HD. I was told I can still watch SD while HD is recording, so no huge loss there. Scheduled install in next wednesday, I will report back then.

It was KDFW, because it was like that on the MPEG4 local on D*.

btw, that logo outside the 4:3 area is inserted by KDFW..it's unique to each affiliate. they will have that on all their primetime feeds regardless of HD, if i'm not mistaken.

I really hope that AT&T does better with Uverse than they did with cable TV service in this market. That was a nightmare. Of course, I sincerely doubt that anyone affiliated with the old cable TV service is around there anymore...

Hopefully those of you with Uverse will keep us updated here (even if it is a little off-topic, I suppose) on your experience with it. I checked it out at the AT&T store at NorthPark, and the picture looked very good. I was a bit concerned about the performance of the DVR, though...it made my 6412 look downright speedy as far as command response went. Maybe that was just that particular box. I'll wait (im)patiently for them to increase the bandwidth and hopefully enable HD multi-stream recording and see how that goes...they will likely be in my area by then and it will be decision time...

Okay, here are my initial thoughts on Uverse here in Dallas. Before I get into specific pros/cons, I wanted to give an overall impression. I like the service. A lot. It is not perfect, but is better the TWC, IMHO. The DVR is good and the signal quality is good, fantastic on the SD channels. I will start with the pros and end with cons:

Pros
- Can watch/record more than one Channel at once (but only one HD stream at a time)
- Guide/menus are really easy to use and look good.
- Searching is really good and has some cool features (ie find programs with an actor by drilling into information on a given program. So I can find Harrison Ford programs by selecting him on the actor tab from Star Wars. It also searches On demand content)
- Can schedule, delete etc from the web.
- Series recording is good, and you can schedule to only record new episodes, not just repeats.
- Nice selection of HD channels. Makes the TWC selection look really bad. Here is a sample A&E HD, NFL HD, ESPN / 2 HD, Nat Geo HD, MusicHD, HDnet/movies, Discovery HD, Universal HD, ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS locals.

Now a few cons:
- Only one HD stream at a time. Not a big deal since the SD channels looks so good anyway.
- On demand selection not as complete as TWC, and I could find no HD on-demand
- Menu response is slow at times for some functions, but for changing channels and info it was fine.
- The CW (33) does not have its HD stream, same with channel 21.

I also haven't looked into the AT&T uverse on the go. Sounds cool but haven't tried it out yet.

A couple of questions hit me...what kind of display are you watching the SD stuff on? I wish I could preview how it looks on my large-ish DLP TV...generally, just how it looks on a fixed pixel display...

Has AT&T made any mention of possibly adding HD versions of 33 and 21?

I have a sony LCD projection HD set. I am viewing at 720p. I tried the 1080i, but the 720p looked better (makes sense if you do the math). The SD is far superior to TWC, whatever they are using to do the up conversion is good.

Don't know about 33 and 21. I will check. I don't think it would be too long before they are added.

You are correct, but that is currently true of TWC here in Dallas. I do get the added benefit of watching SD while recording in HD. My area is not to be upgraded until August, and AT&T has indicated they will have two HD streams this year.

I realized I need to clarify -- my service area for TWC was not to be upgraded until later this year. As it stands right now with UVERSE, I can record/watch any combination of:

4 SD channels
1 HD channel

I still haven't found out when the OTA HDs for The CW and Channel 21 will be available. (But I haven't really looked)

To be honest, as it stands now, I don't miss them and I dont' foresee changing away any time soon, I am very pleased with my service.

To clarify,
it's 4 streams total, so either 4 SD streams or 3 SD, 1 HD.
And that's 4 total for the whole house, so if you are recording 4 streams on he DVR, you have to be watching one of those streams if you want to watch TV in another room.

I am about to jump ship, as my old Comcast promo is up. I was getting internet + hd dvr + showtime + hd tier for $80 a month. It is now $100 for the TV portion alone. I can get similar service from Dish Network for around $55 if I keep the internet with TWC.

Good news, i need at least 2.

My colleague just signed up with AT&T from TW-shite. He got 2 months for free with "300" package and very happy with it so far. The web interface is not working and it's a known issue so he said. They have trouble getting the premium channels go though at first, so they bump him to 400 level package for as long as his original 300 free premiums package.

He went to TW-shite services center to disconnect services and return hardware today. He said he never seen the line that long before, 80% is disconnecting services. :):) :)

I'm glad he got out of shitie-TWC. I'll wait for Fios or AT&T come to my side of town. I'm paying more than $200 a month which i could do less for more. :(

Well, finally got my TV service canceled with TWC, after arguing with the CSR about how to properly pro-rate me. I canceled service 3 days in to my billing cycle, yet she said I would still owe $110, when the full amount is $150. I had to ask her 4 seperate times. "It is only 3 days in to my billing cycle, yet the amount you gave me is over 2/3 the original bill...Please explain to me how that makes sense." Finally, I told her how to do a proper pro-rate, and she finally got it down to around the proper amount. Really, I shouldn't even pay the prorated amount, as I canceled my service the DAY BEFORE the billing cycle, but I figured it was worth the $12 just to get off the damn phone with them. It took me 2 hours of waiting on hold and teaching this lady how pro-rating works to get it all taken care of.

I hopped over to Dish, and get 3x more HD content, for about $30 cheaper, and the HD-DVR is a lot less buggy. I am keeping TWC internet though.

how funny..i am hopping over from Dish to TWC...i just had to many issues with the HD channels signal wise...regular SD channels i would get a signal around 100-110 however the HD channels i would be lucky if i got 50..just too many problems and Dish won't come out and fix it for free...i just had them come out and fix it and now the same issue again which they want to charge me 50 bucks for! plus the HD pack they had was lame and not worth 20 bucks..alot of repeats and certain channels like A&E HD just have one or two shows in HD...going to TWC for about 75 bucks cable and inet compared to the 65 i was paying alone for Dish..

The relative slowness to add HD channels during the Comcast to TW takeover (and since), as well as continuing customer service problems, cost increases (seemingly without notice), lack of communication to customers, etc, certainly haven't endeared previous Comcast customers here in the DFW area to TW.

Given the higher cost differential with respect to some of these other options; service, features, and the like would have to be that much superior in order to justify the cost. I don't know that many people would say that they do.

Even several people who'd been posting here for a while became frustrated enough to move on to other options. It certainly seems as though more action needs to be taken by TW at the risk of otherwise forcing other customers to leave for better overall options. The PR effort has left much to be desired . . .

I am in Lewisville...When I turn on my TV, it says "IRC" in the top left corner, and no matter what I do, my TV is freaking out, switching between a blue screen and the grey static screen. My other TV keeps switching channels on its own. WHAT DO I DO!!?!?

So whatever happened on this? I didn't check mine for awhile, and apparently was victimized, as well. I had some stuff recorded off these channels, and it is all blank. I called and requested a hit to the box via the automated system, but either the box never got hit or it didn't work. I didn't want to deal with the 15-20 minute wait to speak to a rep at that time. I just added the HD Tier a little while back, under protest, and all my other specials were supposed to be good through August. Anyway, I guess I'll give them a call to see what they say, but if anybody has any further info on it, that would be great...

I have not authorized on all my hd channels except locals, tnt and discovery.

Looks like the HD tier is here. I'm not paying an additional 10 bucks or whatever it is -- they don't even carry HDNet Movies, which would probably be the only worthwhile channel of the lot.

The HD Tier *is* here, and now they can't add it to an old Comcast plan. However, I reached a very nice CSR who really wanted to help me. She signed me up on one of their plans, added the DVR, HD Tier, and HBO, Showtime and TMC and internet, and it will cost me about $16 less than it did before, and I didn't have TMC previously. Most of the deal is good for a year. The movie channel special is good for 6 months. Anyway, as much as I have been aggravated with TWC since they took over, I have to give Brenda props for her helpful, caring attitude. She probably saved TWC a customer today, at least for awhile. And for the record, the HD Tier is $3/month.

I signed up for the HD Tier and since they couldn't add it to my old comcast deal (which was $112/month) my bill last bill went up to $146!! And this was with a $20 credit the CSR gave me. The bill is very confusing so I'll wait and see what the real price is on my next bill. But I'm definitely not paying $146/month for cable only. If this included internet also then maybe.

Anyone try the AT&T U-verse? It's now available in my area. I would love to have Verizon Fios but it's not available. My sister was one of the first to get it since she is in Keller. It's very nice.

I received the letter yesterday for the new lineup and equipment upgrade. It says 'on or around 6/1.' My question is when it does go into effect, are the 2-tuner DVR immediately ready or do you still have to wait on those? I also received the letter yesterday (area 75252, far north Dallas) but when I go to the Time Warner website it says upgrade will happen around 7/1 instead of 6/1.

TW customer service says upgrade will be automatic, we have to do nothing. The closest local office to me (plano) has dual tuner DVRs because Plano has already been upgraded. I would call the local office closest to you and see when the dual tuner DVR will be available.

Sorry to say it but I am in South Dallas (75205) and received the upgrade notice - scheduled for 4/30. Looks like they are a month behind. I looked it up on the site today and the date is now 5/24. I believe the unusually strong storms we have had this spring have delayed the upgrade process.

I am very interested in the FIOS and Uvers technologies but neither seem to be available in my area. Does anyone know anything about availability dates in south Dallas?

Tonight in Irving (75061) my DCT-6412 Phase II, got updated to sw ver: 74.53-3321 and Firmware: 16.35. Looks like this is the newest software and firmware. So lets hope this fixes some of the problems I had with the older version.

Well... looks like I got some sort of update (75243)... my guide has some minor graphic changes. The bar at the bottom looks different (time-line) and the way that my favorite's work is different as well.

Does this mean that my area has been upgraded to single-line? I talked to the TW guys that were laying fiber in my neighborhood a few months ago, and the guy said that they were laycing "fiber to the premisis" and what he was telling me sounded like FIOS or U-verse, but it was TW????? He said that everything was going to go through one box and provide higher speeds and more bandwidth. But I haven't heard of anything FIOS or U-verse-like from TW???? By the way, my buddy just got U-verse, and the user-interface is awesome.

Also, what is the capacity of the new dual-tuner boxes? Is it more capacity? Anyone know?

I checked their site for the upgrade date. Originally it was 6/1, but with all the rain, I figured that date might get pushed back. I checked again last week, and it said 6/12. I came home yesterday, turned on the TV and my channel line up was all out of whack. So that clued me in. Other than that, no "official" notice....

Yes, TW has BBCA on Demand. Go to channel 1, then choose the "Entertainment" folder (its on the 3rd screen of On Demand) and then pick "BBC America".

TW has HDNet and Universal on their lineup. They're in the $3 HD tier. In Richardson, the channels numbers are 795 and 805. They also just added ESPN2HD (not on a tier) at channel 785.

Basically, just states that the specified channels moved around a bit on frequency, and are allocated on same 657Mhz spectrum now.
They do have a specific HD only box. Just make sure they give for single line area (switch on back can be changed out).
Of course, no Dual-Tuner of that version. Would defeat reason for needing two tuners for watching/recording separate at same time ;)

We got upgraded Wed - Frankford in between Tollway and Preston - for those who have upgraded and swapped HD DVRs; did you have to call ahead to reserve a box? Is there any way to avoid the 20 minutes (and counting) hold time with TWC CS?

I walked in to the Plano office one Saturday and got lucky that they weren't busy. No appointment or reservation, just swapped out the box with no hassle. The Plano office is usually _dead_ on weekdays, even during lunch hours, but Saturdays are a crap shoot. Even though you are on the "Dallas" system, you can go to Plano or any other office.

Not surprisingly they are short on the two tuner DVR's. When I went in to the FB office last Friday, they said they didn't have any and didn't know when they would get any more. But the rep said he'd check just to be sure. He said they just got two - and gave one to me. My advice, just keep checking you might get lucky - I was. And remember you'll need an HDMI cable because your DVI to HDMI won't work. Got a a 6' at Fr** for 20 bucks. Now I just need to learn how to work the two tuners!

Do they analogs look ok? Sometimes if the analogs are crapped out your digitals won't come in worth a crap.

Been a little while, but pretty sure to swap the tuners(of dual-tuner) use the SWAP key down in PIP section of remote if do not have remote with that on bottom need to request for one.
Both older Comcast (Silver) and new TimeWarner (Black) remote have PIP keys on bottom. It will be under TV/VCR - 0 - HD Zoom for Comcast remote and/or the * - 0 - #(HD/ZOOM) for TimeWarner remote.

What kind of problems has anyone been having with setting up a new dual-tuner box. Nearly 18 hours later, my digitals still aren't working, the remote is EXTREMELY slow and its been a pain trying to do anything.

I'm near Marsh and Rosemeade, and have had almost no service since last Thursday. Tech came yesterday, claimed my DVR was bad, left a box saying he would return with another, and (I was not here) apparently it worked for a while. Now, neither of my boxes gets any signal (only the menu with correct time) and my internet connection is intermittent at best. They will come back July 3. I have called to report trouble 4 times, and last Sat they told me that they had changed to the new single cable digital on Thurs, so I blame that conversion for my issues. Of course, the help desk says no known issues now. I believe it is time to change service.

I have two configuration questions for your TWC experts:

1. I have my 6412 connected by HDMI to my DLP HDTV and by optical connection to my surround receiver. The 6412 has an Audio Setup page with the categories Default Audio Track, Optimal Stereo, Audio Output, Compression, and Stereo Output. Most of the time I listen to the TV through the TV speakers, but when a good movie comes on I use the surround receiver. What's the best audio configuration and what are the advantages/disadvantages of the setups?

2. I also see that the 6412 has some display configuration options such as DVI output, 4:3 overide etc. What are the advantages and optimum settings for HDTV's. My DLP above displays 1080p and I have a LCD (without DVR) that's 720p.

I should have known better.

About 10 am, my cable & Internet were out in my apartment (near Forest & Marsh, 75234). As I headed out the door, a TWC technician working nearby kindly volunteered the info that the switchover was happening. Because there are so many apartment complexes in the area, he anticipated the cable would be out all day. He said I wouldn't have to do anything, 'just leave the box on all day.' We had a short pleasant chat. I work from home, so the lack of Internet was frustrating, but I knew this would be the price to pay.

When it finally came up, I had no new channels and only analog channels 2-61. Trucks were in my complex until past 8:30 pm, but nothing more ever came up. I tried unplugging the digital box ('to let the memory reset') and nothing changed. I just spent 45 minutes on the phone (15 min. wait, 30 min. talk) to be told that the rebuild was not complete and it had been scheduled for July 24; the CSR checked with her supervisor. (The date on the web site changed from 'week of June 29' on Thursday to 'July 3' yesterday to 'July 2' today.) At least the Internet is back.

Now I have an appointment for Thursday afternoon. The CSR said she would give me a credit for the missing service days. Sorry for just belly-aching, but it stinks to have no other option (satellite can't get a signal from my apt., can't afford to move again). And then I'll have to go through the whole thing again to get a dual-tuner box... :(

I've been having problems off and on (much more often than less, unfortunately) for the last several weeks.

I've been out of town for stretches a fair amount during that time, so told the customer service rep a few weeks or so ago that I'd like to schedule a service call, but wouldn't be able until things begin to slow down.

Hi Pure and luckytobealiv, can you answer these questions? I just want to be sure I'm getting the optimum performance out of my HDDVR, HDBOX, TV's and sound system.

1. I have my 6412 connected by HDMI to my DLP HDTV and by optical connection to my surround receiver. The 6412 has an Audio Setup page with the categories Default Audio Track, Optimal Stereo, Audio Output, Compression, and Stereo Output. Most of the time I listen to the TV through the TV speakers, but when a good movie comes on I use the surround receiver. What's the best audio configuration and what are the advantages/disadvantages of the setups?

2. I also see that the 6412 has some display configuration options such as DVI output (even though it's now HDMI), 4:3 overide etc. What are the advantages and optimum settings for HDTV's. My DLP above displays 1080p and I have a LCD HDTV(Box ? without DVR) that's 720p.

1.) Depend on the connection you use.

The audio setting on dvr box doesn't affect digital out, it's a direct pass though. I would have guessed that's one you used on for you pre-pro or receiver. If you used the 2 channels analog out for you TV, then changes made on dvr box' audio setup does affect the overall sound field (for you Tv). Frankly, it doesn't matter which one you choose, it makes little or less impact for overall sound quality.

2.)If memory serves me right, there's more options over 4:3 override. 480i, 480p or stretch to fix wide screen.

That's the options how you like moto to handle SD material and it's only affect SD channels not hd.

using 480i if you have better deinterace on receiving end (TV or video processor), the signals are pass though and you TV is doing the upscaling to 1080p.

But if you were to use 480P, the moto box would be the one that deinterlaced the signals to progressive mode.

In the end, either one will force you TV to upscale the resolution to native resolution of you TV, (1080p). The result are different from one display to another, it's depend on how good the deinterace are. You should try both which you like better.

Then there's another option to this override mode, that's stretching 4:3 material into 16:9 Display.

Back to hdtv setting, set tv type to 16:9 and either 1080i or 720p will do just fine. Again, your TV will upscale either one to 1080p. Let you eyes do the justice which setting looks better on you TV.

Just called Time Warner about getting cable service in Dallas, in the Village Apartments and the customer service rep said 3 weeks wait! He said it would be July 27 or so for the first open date that a tech could come out!

How can a company make money turning away a new customer?

I really just wanted cable for the upcoming Tour De France and now this will not be possible.

How dumb of me to assume I could get cable within a couple days, like most telecommunications services.

Zeroendless actually answered better then I would have without refreshing myself on the 6412 box. Been a little while since looked into all the screens and so on. Doing alot of Business internet lately.
(Live in dual line area yet to be upgraded. When that happens I'll have a dual tuner I can reference to more.)

Of course I understand that they are not witholding service, but 3 weeks is an outrageous amount of time to wait for something as trivial as cable TV service. In the past, when it was Comcast or AT&T the installation was available the same day or the next business day. I'm afraid Time Warner just does not get "it"

I worked when was Comcast and it all depends on all sorts of factors. For now, the weather is not helping anything at all. Summer is the busiest time of year.
Yes, there are times Time Warner has been able to do same days up to just a few days.
Even on the Business side we just started getting out more than a few days.
Too many factors to consider and to a typical person cable may seem trivial and it did to me until I have learned what I have and been in industry for a little over a few years now.

I see how frustrating it can be, and I would continue calling in and seeing if can get a sooner appointment. Things can change daily. Wish the best for you.

It was all black, and sleek across the front. It didn't have that silly round circle button motif on the front.

Anyone know anything about these boxes? I hope they have larger HDD's!!

I know that Comcast was going to be purchasing some Panasonic HD DVRs...I wonder if the order stayed in place after the takeover?

Different question for those who might know...

Is anyone successfully getting channel listings for TV Guide On Screen, and if so how?
For awhile, we were able to get listings onto our Pioneer DVD Recorder when hooked up to a 5100 digital box, but lately, we have not gotten any updates to the on screen guide (although the box continues to try). Anyone out there with a recipe for success - especially in the Dallas upgraded area?

I been using s3 since it was first available at DFW area. One sucker price i paid for better DVR box :(

The s3 is very nice, Tivo updates sw and hiccup constantly and they take care of customer good. Now you can simply add extra storage via a plug in esata drive. :)

At first, it took some beating to get the Cable cards activated and worked for full channels line-up, the tech should be fairly efficient now dealing with CC (i hope). They will do everything to avoid cable card installation including lying about the fact that you can't use CC or it;s not support in your area.

I have issues with few hd channels in the past for a duration of ~2 months but now everything seems to work just fine. No SDV news i knew of for hd channels and i hope it sticks.

I have been using S3 with CableCards since October - no issues so far.

BTW, this post at TCF reports on a new, cheaper S3-lite is coming in August:

This post reports on some supposed plans for them to take the network al-digital in 2009. I would think going all digital would free enough bandwidth to avoid SDV for a while.

Thanks for the info, guys. I was hoping one of our TW folks had some info on the company's plans regarding SDV in this market, but I didn't really figure that information was available to them at this point...it was worth a shot, anyway. If I had a viable way to get a good OTA signal to my TV along with cable, it would be more tempting. Getting a second coax run would be a bit of a challenge. IOh now I wish I had signed the deal on my house *before* the drywall went up!

I am finally reaping a benefit from having to deal with the dual-line cable plant for ~10-years. I just put up a powered antenna in the attic and tapped the output into the now unused B-side cable run and now have a good quality ATSC signal to every point I have a cable outlet.

My 2 DLPs now have OTA for all channels, including one with the S3. I also bought some old Voom receivers on eBay for $50 each and also have ATSC input to my two S2's.

Very nice! At least you got something out of that deal. I'm guessing the Voom boxes have an S-video (or similar analog) out so you can record down-rezzed digital content on the S2 TiVos, correct? Anyway, sounds like you have pretty much attained maximum flexibility with that setup...congrats!

Previously, I could not pull in WFAA (8.x) with my rabbit ears. Now get all the networks + more with one antenna in the attic AND distribute it throughout the house via the unused B-side cable run.
I can provide a list tonight if you're interested. I also haven't compared against what antenanweb.org says is available in the area.

The Voom boxes are HD receivers that the Tivo's can control via their IR blasters. So, rather than having to record the analog cable input for the networks, I can record the cleaner, down-rezzed HD signals input to the Tivo via S-video. There is another thread in the Tivo forum on the details for this if anyone is interested.

As for cable, I can still get the cable versions of the network HD channels, DiscoveryHD, TNTHD, and ESPNHD on tuners that are QAM capable as well.
Did you re-scan the digital cable channels as I assume they would have moved when you were switched over? Try 106.3 for DiscoveryHD on the single-line system. If you get that, re-scan. BTW, there is a post on previous pages of this thread for the latest clear QAM channel mappings.

Yesterday afternoon while watching Matrix Revolutions in HD on CinemaxHD, the final scenes in the rain were almost unwatchable, they kept flipping to a completely grainy type picture. Is this phenomenon due to the HD medium itself, TimeWarner limitations, my 6412SDB (connected to Sammy HLS5078 via HDMI) or something else? It seems that when the entire scene is rapidly moving, the delail just disappears. Would I see this on a HD or BD version?

Any thoughts?

I live in an apt in 75287 and previously we were on a Single Line system. TWC has finished the upgrade and now as far as I can tell I have digital equivalents to every analog channel. My only problem at the moment is the cable card on my HDTV is not downloading the new channel lineup from the Head End. If I pull the card out and rescan I can see all the new channels but if I pop the card in after that it grabs the old lineup.

I tried calling TWC customer support but all they want to do is send out a tech and i don't need that. Is there anyway via email or supersecret rain dance to get a message to somebody who can just throw the switch to fix the cablecards in my neck of the woods?

Have you tried hard reset, remove power or any sort on your hdtv??

My experiences with similar issues is NO. I have talked to manager, supports and dispatch units and the answer was always NO. Even the tech agreed their presence on many of occasion were totally unnecessary. Unfortunately, their policy is only the tech can communicate directly with the cable card department. Hope you get it sorted it.

No word on M-Cards in DFW but I would be interested in one for a TiVo-HD I plan to get before the end of the year and hopefully to replace the two I have in my S3 to reduce costs (hope they enable that in a SW update).

Apparently TWC interpreted the rules as saying they could continue to re-issue any boxes they had in inventory, not just those actually deployed on 7/1/07. The thread at TCF discusses that topic and whether it is a legitimate interpretation. One post says the reg specifically prohibited stockpiling. The 9 month inventory TWC has does seem excessive and I cannot believe it's all just subscriber churn.

Time Warner Cable has enough inventory in their systems to supply new customers as well as previous customers with DVR's and STB's that don't meet the new regulations. Since current inventory is exempt from the new regulation.

For the Dallas/Ft. Worth area metroplex. Time Warner won't be providing units that meet new regulations for this area until current inventory has been significantly reduced. Time Warner informed me that they estimate the need for the "NEW" boxes to be around March of 2008.

This is inside information that I obtained from a Time Warner executive in the Dallas Fort Worth area metroplex.

Current inventory of the Moto DCT6412 is expected to remain in service in the DFW area until at least March of 2009. When DFW Time Warner will switch to a complete digital cable system and discontinue use of analog cable.

Currently DFW Time Warner is in the process of system wide upgrades and improvements so that new features & services can be provided to it's users.

When these upgrades have been completed their is a plan to add an additional 28 channesl of HD service to our area. As well as improved DVR service.

He found out that when DFW does replace its current Moto DCT6412 units with the new Cable card ready units. It will be with the new Moto DCH3416 box.

The Dallas warehouse is issuing out both M-Cards and the Moto DCH6416 (possibly the DCH3416 as well just using model I have currently). I have one of those boxes in my van now.

The issue may be more along the lines of how many available at any given time.

That and what offices are actually receiving them. Yes, they are going through current inventory as I have one of the Moto DCT6412 in van as well along with the typical black digital boxes.

EDIT: I am not aware of what other warehouses receive just can assume being Dallas is receiving them. If near a local payment center it could be worth a shot to see if any in stock at that location.

I picked up the 6416 yesterday. Had to have it activated over the phone after I hooked it up because the box is new. Ultimately, it only worked as a cable box. No dual-tuner DVR function - or any DVR functions for that matter. Anyone else with similar experience with 6416? Has anyone had the 6416 work properly?

Before I trot over to Arlington to switch my 6412 box out for a 6416 (if I have that right), what would be the advantage of doing so? Faster processor? More disk storage? I presently have a 1080p DLP connected by HDMI.

As I understand it, the 6412 has a 120 GB hard drive while the 6416 has a 160 GB hard drive. If your 6412 already has HDMI out there may not be any additional advantage beyond storage space.

Hi everyone,

I have been a long time DirecTV customer. When I moved to Dallas last month, I decided that I didn't want to see the dish hanging off of my balcony so I opted for Time Warner Cable.

The tech installed one of the new Motorola HD receivers with DVR. The picture is terrible! I've had two different techs out and they can't figure out the problem. When viewing the menu you can see each color making up the text like it is offset rather than overlaid. The picture is blurry. HD channels on TWC looks worse than the regular digital channels on DirecTV.

The first tech told me it was the tv or the cables which I know it's not. I hooked up the DirecTV receiver and the picture is crystal clear. The last tech that was out swapped out the receiver but the problem continued. I have another service call set up for Saturday but I figured someone here might be able to give me some guidance. The manual they left was for a regular digital receiver/DVR and I can't find the manual online so I'm at a loss.

If I can't get it fixed before football season I'll have to switch back to DirecTV.

Please help!

PS Anyone have any tips for the remote? It's cumbersome and seems to be designed for an older receiver & DVR. Is it possible they gave me the wrong one?

I too am wondering when FSNHD will be here? I don't understand why it takes TW so long to catch up with other carriers? They seem to always be a year behind with adding channels that people actually want. We just got ESPN2HD and that's been around forever.

In order to help I need to know how you're hooking up the box to the TV and what kind of TV you have. When you hooked up the DirecTV receiver to the TV did you use the exact same cables and connect them to your TV in the exact same way? Have you gone into the setup menu to confirm that the box settings are compatible with your TV? To get into the setup (Mot 64xx), TV on, box off, press "Menu" on either the remote or the box. A screen should appear to let you select output resolution, etc.

I thought it was something new, which was supposed to be ESPNU HD. I already had ESPNU as its on my Vista Media Center guide already. I would have to manually add it if its new.

Is anyone using the firewire output on the Motorola boxes?

I've been a long-time HBO subscriber, and when Comcast initially deployed these boxes, the 5C protection on the HBO channels were disabled. :D After a while they became enabled and stayed that way for a long time. :(

A couple of months ago I noticed that they were disabled again. :D But I see today they are back to enabled. :( I also noticed that some other digital channels became enabled as well.

Anyone with inside TW knowledge know what's going on? I'm sure the reps wouldn't know anything about it if I called. :p

Actually I'm not sure if any particular channel is supposed to be 5C enabled or disabled.. I just know it's nice having it disabled. :D

Wow, I just came to post the same exact thing. I've been recording via the moto box ->Firewire - > Vista Media Center box since early February. I noticed the last couple of days that HDNet HD recordings are now showing up not in HD(Vista puts the small HD trademark next to HD recorded programs. I also noticed that College Football Live, last night's NFL game and the Little League World Series games all were NOT recorded in HD. At the same time, I recorded a couple of programs on Discovery HDT and they still recorded in HD. So I checked and the 5C is definitely enabled now. I don't know if I should complain or what since I don't know the rights as consumers. I also wish I could get some live HD via the firewire in Vista Media Center.

Should I call and inquire about the 5C? or are they going to force me to go with their HD-DVR?

Me neither.. I googled the subject and have read that individual broadcaster determine whether they want 5c enabled. I've also read contrarily that a service provider may or may not choose to enable 5c, depending on where you are in the country. Maybe if we talked to the right TW person, they'll turn it off again? :huh:

I would, except years with Comcast/TW has taught me to avoid their support line like the plague; besides, the last time I was in their office none of them had a clue what firewire was. (DISCLAIMER: I have been helped by knowledgeable reps before, it's just that most of the time....... :( )

On Friday, my area 75231 (Park - Abrams) was upgraded. This forum was a great guide to discern the expected effects. Here is my experience:

1) Friday- 9AM Service outage for 3 hours.

2) Friday- 12PM Service returns with only analog "A" side channels 2-~110 in the upgraded channel lineup. RR works.

3) Saturday- 9AM Full service restored. Digital picture quality is good but the guide is the old A/B lineup. RR works.

4) Saturday- 12PM I read about the new dual turner boxes and decide to go venture out to find one.

5)Saturday- 1PM The Customer service center at Chenault St. is out of stock. I was told that the next shipment would arrive in about two weeks.

6) Saturday- 1:30PM Acquire a new DCH6416 at the Garland office. I was told the box would need to be activated when I got home by using the automated telephone activation (option#3). They have plenty more from what I could see. Then, I go get a HDMI->HDMI cable as the DVI->HDMI wont work for a 6208 box upgrade. Thank for the reminder rrldtx!

7) Saturday- 2:30PM - 4:30 Try to activate (self option #3 and CSR) without success. I can see the "DISCONNECT" status is "YES" in the configuration screen but the the Diagnostics screen indicate I am connected and the 6416 has been issued a IP address. I was told to wait overnight with the unit on.

8) Sunday- 9AM No service. I decide to call again. We try the std routine (plug/unplug) and I ask her if there is another way to activate these "new" boxes. She gets an "a-ha" moment and declares that the new 6416 can NOT be activated using the standard methodology. She does some other method and Bingo. I get everything channel that I am paying for. Hurray!

All things considered, I am very impressed. I imagine a transformation of this magnitude is very difficult. The icing on the cake is that my official upgrade date is still over a month away!

Is it generally the case that apartments have an aerial around somewhere for people who don't have cable? Any apartment I've lived in had great reception through the outlet before the cable was actually activated. I figure Mr. Cable Guy just re-routs the pipe from the antenna to the cable-co line.

The reason I'm asking is because I'd love to have the now unused B side pipe bring in ATSC. I can't get any reception using rabbit ears or even an outside antenna from my unit.

Any insight?

Here is my email to TWC concerning FSNHD:

I would like to know when Fox Sports Net Southwest HD will be carried by TWC? It is very frustrating that TWC seems to be a year or so behind everyone else when it comes to adding HD channels. We just got ESPN2HD and it has been available elsewhere for over a year now. I have tried to call the customer service line and I can't get an educated answer from any of the CSR's that I have talked to.

I am a long-time TWC customer that is very frustrated with the fact that my teams games are being broadcast in HD and I can't see them in HD. As other options become available in my area (Verizon FiOS, AT&T U-Verse, etc.) the more tempted I am to switch.

Anyone know if something changed regarding CableCards and the HD tier? Over the weekend, I lost HBO, ESPN, Mojo,and the other HD tier channels on my s3 TiVo. I've rebooted several times & had CSRs send 2 hits. These things have worked in the past, but no luck this time.

Any ideas?

Hi everyone, I just picked up 40" LCD with a built in QAM. I have TWC and pay for only basic cable. I did a scan and it found about 7 HD channels. I noticed on channel MOJO and HDNET I don't get any sounds, all others I can hear sounds from TNTHD, and Discovery HD. Is this because I need TWC HD box? thanks

I am having the same issues.
For me in the past HBO UNIVERSAL HD HDNET MOJO ESPN 1 AND 2
infact all the HD channels except for SHOWTIME were disabled.
Last week they enabled them all and the only channels that are not enabled are Locals and Crappy TNTHD which isnt really worth having anyway.
I am now considering ditching the HD package because i love having the option to cap from these channels.
I dont bother with MOVIES but the music concerts on HD NET and LONDON LIVE ON MOJO and ABBEY ROAD SESSIONS on Universal HD are now disabled for me.
Then again this did happen 3-4 months ago with HDNET and ALL Other channels except for Universal and TNTHD and within a week they were all disabled again.
Does anyone have some inside info on if this is going to be a permanent thing or even why they decided to do it?

In the Village, the cable is routed to a Comcast labeled box outside your building. When your cable is "installed" the installer opens the box and unscrews a copper anti-tamper cylinder about the size of a bullet and screws your coax onto the board supplying the cable signal. In the past, before AT&T rewired the Village in 1999, they used to provide a free signal that gave you the local channels. Now they do not. Now when your do not have a cable account you get no signal whatsoever since the cable is technically disconnected.

I wish that in The Village they offered a discount service of some sort. The pricing that they offer is nose-bleed level and the service is very sub-par. AT&T has been hanging U-Verse ads on apartment doors for some time and many people are switching from Time-Warner to AT&T since the service is $50 less a month and the customer service is much better, it seems.
