CYT Device: Unlocking Information

I wanted to start a new thread here to help those who have a CYT-device and are trying to unlock and reuse it.

There are many CYT-flavored (TI AR7 chipset) devices.

Here are a few we know about:

- Linksys WRTP54G - 2 phone ports, 4 port router, wireless
- Linksys RTP300 - 2 phone ports, 4 port router
- Linksys PAP2 v2.0- 2 phone ports
- Vtech IP8100 - Cordless SIP phone with base
- Motorola VT2442 - 2 phone ports, 4 port router
- D-Link VTA-VR - 2 phone ports
- Linksys WAG54GP2 - 2 phone ports, DSL router

At this point, the cyt-unlocker being discussed in other threads will attempt to 'unlock' the device by changing the supervisor (Admin) password. The tool will also change all SIP settings to a generic default, making it ready for configuration by you.

As with many of these tricks, if you happen to factory reset the device, (most of the time) you will return all of the locked settings. This includes the factory setting of the Admin password.. it will be locked.

So, if you need to factory reset the device, just run the cyt-unlocker tool after the factory reset to re-unlock the device.

For those who are currently registered customers with a VoIP provider, this tool will not retain any of your account settings! In other words: do not use this tool if you are subscribing to a phone service! The device you are unlocking should not be registered with any service.

Current Version is: cyt 3.0 for Windows*
*See release notes in that file for currently supported devices.

As more devices are released with this chipset, newer versions will follow. From what I have heard, there has been talk about a web site going online to offer cleaner distribution of future updates.

The best support for owners of these devices is to use forums like this one.

To add more to the above, please read this CYT Device Unlock FAQ. Thi is a a must to read if you own a Linksys PAP2 v2.0 and/or a DLink VTA-VR device.

Credits go to cron for the FAQ.

Re: CYT Device: Unlocking Information

I know it sounds stupid, and I've read about 2 hours through the various threads and haven't found the answer.

How do I obtain the IP Address of the PAP2 so that I can login while running CYT30 if I'm connecting between my PC and the PAP2 with a autosensing ethernet switch (as defined in the readme).

If I connect the PAP2 to my router, disconnecting the modem/Internet connection, then I can see the PAP2 IP address, can login to its web page, and can ping it. Attempts to run CYT30 in this configuration don't work, so I started to use the switch as defined in the CYT30 readme. Using the switch I cannot ping 192.168.15.1 or 192.158.1.5 (addresses suggested elsewhere). There is no DHCP, so how is the PAP2 obtaining the IP?

Re: CYT Device: Unlocking Information

On the pap2 v2.0, there is IVR support.

That is, you can hook a phone to the line1 port and dial *** to get a voice menu.

Once in that menu, dial 110 # to hear your IP address read to you.

Re: CYT Device: Unlocking Information

Thanks rclink; however, since I have flashing power light, when I attach a phone to line 1 or 2 all I get is fast busy. There is no opportunity to access the IVR.

I'm a bit lost on the CYT30 readme, perhaps I just don't understand enough about networking. A switch, to my knowledge, has no methodology (NAT/DHCP) for assigning IP addresses. Thus when the readme is suggesting certain IP addresses, what is setting these? Do I need to install Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on the desktop or do I specify for example the suggested IP addresses on the desktop (IPCONFIG?) and in the PAP2 configuration page (which currently is set to obtain IP). If I weren't using a switch and instead simply a cross-over cable I would have the same issue.

I am still able to login to the PAP2v2 by connecting it to my router (after unplugging the modem connection to avoid PAP2 connection to Vonage) and get to the config page. Running CYT30 in this setup (with my DHCP assigned IP) always results in the XML server starting, but nothing ever happens, it never comes back with a completion.

As an FYI, my PAP2 config page has a firmware version number like 1.0.13, yet I constantly see threads with firmware beginning with 3.x; am I missing something? Have I possibly created a door stop by doing a factory reset along the way?

I'm continuing to scan through the various threads on unlocking this beast. Perhaps I should use the original manual method of unlocking and forget about CYT30?

Sounds like it is working.. I would suggest that for the duration of using CYT that you disable windows firewall. If you do not, the device can not talk to the CYT tool.

Let us know if that helps.

Re: CYT Device: Unlocking Information

Factory Reset (hold reset button > 20 sec lights blink). Numerous attempts and no change in attempting to reach IVR. Either silence on line, a three rising tone, or fast busy; but no response to any of asterisk button and varying states of the above three states.

Turned off Norton Int Sec completely and no Windows Firewall (as done previously), reset Int Explorer security settings to Low on Internet and Local Low. Logged into PAP2 admin/admin. CYT30 changed to IP address which is used to access. XML server started, but never returns. Factory reset via reset button didn't help. Didn't try just the ethernet switch since obtaining the IP via IVR didn't seem possible. Did try changing PAP2 to hardcode the IP address assigned by router.

Perhaps I'll try CYT30 on another computer tomorrow.

I was able to utilize another computer and CVT30 completed providing login info as designed. There must be some form of software blocking completion on my primary computer, the successful computer has almost nothing loaded.

I can now access the IVR, obtain IP and even have dialtone.

However, all attempts to login to Update or Voice_admin failed with "Error: User not allowed to login this user level" or "Bad User/Password". I've tried all sorts of combinations, power cycled the PAP2, tried normal login, followed by the /update page with no success (noting that it accepts the factory user/password at just the IP home page) and tried rerun CVT30 (all with internet diconnect). I'll keep trying...

Re: CYT Device: Unlocking Information

I have no idea why the cyt33 was triggering your AV.. According to google, that trojan is brand new. Since I have used the program here, I did a thorough scan and did not find anything to report.

Anyhow, here is a cleaned-up version that (maybe) includes d-link VTA-VR support.. someone should test it and verify that for us.

Also, this version has a preview of an upcoming menu... It will (soon) let you make changes to the XML using cyt. There are many settings that are not shown on the web interfaces of these devices. What better way to access those settings? (it gives you a sneak-peak for now, does not let you make changes at this time)

EDIT: The cyt_3.4 version has been removed-- it has a port error, preventing it from doing anything. It has been corrected, and re-packaged as cyt_3.5. If you downloaded the 3.4 release, please re-download this link (updated to 3.5).

I don't know either, but cyt34 came down without KAV squealing like a pig (literally). It must be a false positive with this new trojan. Fortunately, KAV definitions are updated every four hours, so it'll probably get straightened out fast.

Re: CYT Device: Unlocking Information

It is sounding like you are talking about the original Linksys PAP2 device. Sorry to say, the original PAP2 does not work with the CYT program.

Probably about one month ago, Linksys PAP2 v2.0 started to show-up on the shelves at stores around the country. Even though it is labeled "Linksys PAP2 v2", it is really a completely different beast inside. That is why the v2 version works with the CYT program.

The v2 version of the PAP2 does indeed have a reset button. Holding it in for the 30sec to 1 minute timeframe will actually factory default the device.

One option you have, if your purchase was recent, would be to return it and look for the "v2" version of the PAP2. The PAP2 box has a silver stripe on the top-front for v2. (The original has orange stripe)..

A PAP2v2 has a built-in reset PIN hole to do a factory reset. If yours don't have a reset PIN hole on the side panel and above Phone1 port, then it is either an ordinary PAP2 or a PAP2T (if this one also has no reset PIN hole, too).

Those boxes looked like PAP2v2. Please confirm the MAC address of on the BOXes with the ones on the back panels of your PAP2v2 units. They should match. Then, there should be a reset PIN hole on the left side panel above Phone1 port. You may need a magnifying glasses to see.

My guess would be that those are Linksys PAP2 units, based on the Sipura model. That is similar (if not the same) to the original Linksys PAP2 unit.

Unlike a PAP2, a PAP2v2 MAC address starts out with 0018. I know you already mentioned your PAP2v2 has a V2 on it somewhere, can you look very carefully again to see if there is a written PAP2V2 on the back of your device? Also, if you look from the front side, where can the Cisco logo be found? BTW, on your post where you mentioned it's a PAP2-NA version 2 it has no reset button/hole anywhere on the outside of the device or on the inside of the device. The serial interface needs a 3.3v converter chip (something like a MAX232) to be able to hook it to a PC.

On similar TI-chip'd products, I must say, it works nicely :)

Beware, the firmware for these devices (and similar-branded versions) all require a login password on the serial console..

But, there is LOTS of great information on the console if you are debugging or testing something.

One last thing.. make sure to change CONSOLE_STATE to 'unlocked' in /proc/ticfg/env

This will let you get into the PSP bootloader, and do an emergency firmware upload without letting the router boot (in case you brick the firmware)..

Re: CYT Device: Unlocking Information

To access your PAP2v2 Provision page, point your web browser to http: //[PAP2 IP Address]/cgi-bin/webcm?getpage=/usr/www_safe/html/voice/Provision.html. There is no enabled/disabled button for Provision.

If you have your PAP2v2 unlocked with CYT Unlocker program, you will see the Current Provisioning Profile URL field points to 127.0.0.1. If you want to play safe, save a copy of the Default Encryption Key for future use in case if it gets re-locked by Vonage. For even a safer approach, disable I/O traffics from/to any Vonage sites on your router. I use the following two IPTABLES rules to block I/O traffics from/to 69.59.0.0 and 216.115.0.0 subnet (locations of Vonage servers) on my Linksys WRT54GS v3 router with DD-WRT v23 SP1 firmware:
iptables -I FORWARD -d 69.59.0.0/16 -j DROP
iptables -I FORWARD -d 216.115.0.0/16 -j DROP

Can you SSH into your router to see if it has iptables program? If so, you can temporarily run this program until the next power cycle/reboot.

You may have to enable ssh at-least we have to on the wrt54[g/s] with 3rd party firmware. Open a web browser and see if you can http: //RoutrIP and check the option under Administration, that's where it is on wrt54[g-s]

IIRC, Linksys has removed dropbear support from the WRTP54G-NA firmware. If your WRTP54G-NA runs on the latest -NA firmware, I am afraid you won't be able to SSH to your router.

This is the PAP2 not the PAP2V2. To unlock this you need to goto the PAP2 unlocking guide.

The PAP2 uses the ESS chip, as you have. The new PAP2V2 uses the TI chip and has a totally differnt layout.

So, you thought CYT Unlocker will do the trick on your PAP2, right? As already explained in several posts here in this thread, the CYT Unlocker is a (universal) unlocking program for ATA devices based on a TI-AR7 platform. Neither PAP2 nor PAP2T (or PAP2v3) is based on a TI-AR7 platform.

If you really want to unlock your PAP2, you will have to go back to read and REALLY understand posts on PAP2 unlocking guide or find someone who is willing to help you to unlock and/or even completely reset your PAP2. I believe I once had offered to trade-in my virgin PAP2 (still sealed in its box) with someone's locked PAP2-NA here. If that someone wasn't you, the offer is still good for that person as well as for you. TBH with you, this really is not a good deal for me; however, since your unit is a PAP2-NA, I will be more than willing to sacrifice a virgin PAP2 (runs on firmware below v3.1.7 since it was bought before 9/26/5 -- before the unlocking procedure was out) for a locked PAP2-NA mainly because I want to investigate and study how a PAP2-NA bypasses its locking mechanism. I don't expect anything in return, except your gratitude of paying the S/H for both devices. In this case, it may cost you more than $10. You may also want to consider that a PAP2/PAPv2 (don't know if it still) can be had for as little as $10 from a local BB store after the instant $50 GC promotion. The only difference here is the PAP2 from BB is flashed with a firmware v3.1.9 and/or newer whereas mine is still below v3.1.7. Anyway, I just hope you will be able to unlocked your PAP2-NA and don't have to through this kind of tedious exchanges and/or buying a new one.

First, login as Admin and then click the System tab. There you can set the user and admin PWs

Oops, I think you are talking about the PAP2V2. To do the V2, you have to make a config file and feed it to your device. Follow the steps for the rtp300/wrtp54g in the vonage forum. Since you have access to the provisioning page, make sure the provisioning keys (decryption keys) field is blank. Then you can feed it plain text XML

Could it be that your devices have only manual DNS (fixed IP for voice DNS server) and since there is no reply from DNS server, there is no request for the configuration file ?
The device needs first to find the IP of the configuration server before actually requesting a file from that server.
Have you seen any request for a DNS server in Ethereal log ?

I own two D-Link VTA-VR (Vonage) and I can't get past step #7 of the TFTP Procedure to upgrade. I can login with user/user but the adapter is not changing the user password to 1234. No matter how many times I try, (including clicking on the "Accept" button and then "Save & Reboot", it reverts back to the "user" password. I even tried to change the PW with the firewall and Antivirus off.

Since I can't change the PW to 1234, I tried to do the TFTP upgrade procedure with the adapter's web browser open with user/user in the background and a new IE window open to run the upgrade in the foreground and the following response came back:

"The requested URL '/upgrade?tftp://192.168.1.110/PAP2-SP2K.bin' was not found on this server". Note: the adapter's web browser IP is: 192.168.111

On the upper right hand corner of the login page of the web browser it shows the following info: VTA-11.4.0-r060331-1.00.07-r060418.img

I've also tried unlocking the adapter using different versions of CYT to no avail. I am completely frustrated that after reading all the recommended posts by Mazilo and yourself, I still can't get this darn contraption to unlock so I can use it with my Stanaphone account.

Alot has been written and said about the VTA-VR on this forum even after all the reading I've done.

Astrodude,
You are thoroughly confused. I don't know where you've found any post claiming that the VTA-VR can be unlocked with the old procedure for the PAP2v1, but I can tell you in no uncertain terms that anyone who makes such a claim, doesn't have the remotest clue what in hell he or she is talking about.

The old PAP2v1 can be flashed with the modded firmware of the SPA2000--PAP2-SP2K.bin--for the purpose of unlocking, as both the PAP2v1 and SPA2000 are based on the same architecture (with a processing chip from ESS, and the same software base and proprietary OS) and are virtually identical designs. This is the unlocking procedure that you are trying to apply to your VTA-VR, which on the other hand is compatible with the newer PAP2v2, a device which despite its name does not share any architectural similarities whatsoever with its similarly named predecessor--NONE, ZIP, ZERO, NADA. The VTA-VR and PAP2v2 are designed around a VoIP chip from TI (with a completely different processor core than the ESS chip) and run Linux as their OS. You have to use the CYT tool to unlock those. By the same token, CYT cannot be used to unlock the PAP2v1.

There is no such thing about using the CYT with a PAP2-SP2K.bin to unlock a PAP2v2/VTR-VR. I notice that the information on the upper right hand corner of the Login page of the web browser of both units (VTA-11.4.0-r060331-1.00.07-r060418.img) coinsides with the version indicated on the sticker because it includes the "1.00.07" shown on the sticker...silly goose!

Let me go back and re-read the posts and search for posts on the version 1. I will come back with reasonable questions(if any) after I've educated myself.

I am curious... have you tried CYT in your efforts to unlock this device?

I am not sure why you are interested in PAP2 unlocking if you dont have a PAP2.. You have a D-Link VTA-VR, right?

BTW, the scoop they are trying to tell you is something like this... The Linksys PAP2 (without the v2.0 on the label) is considered the "version 1" or first release. It is the device that is based on the ESS chip and is NOT running Linux. The newer versions of the Linksys PAP2 now show a ver 2.0 on the label (also on the box, near the UPC). This is an identifiable clue letting you know that the box is using the TI DSP, not the ESS chip. Also, this is a give-away that it is running Linux.

So... If you see the "ver 2.0" on a Linksys PAP2, you can use CYT to unlock it.

Here is an easier, more exciting way to figure out which PAP2 you own:

   L I N K S Y S P A P 2 - I D E N T I F I C A T I O N G U I D E

PAP2 using ESS chip = FOUR BLUE LEDS = use "PAP2 unlocking thread"
PAP2 using TI chip = FOUR GREEN LEDS = USE CYT to unlock this

or
(pressing *** to access IVR, you hear "configuration menu")

words spoken in MALE voice = use "PAP2 unlocking thread"
words spoken in FEMALE voice = USE CYT to unlock

or
(turn PAP2 so you see PHONE jacks) Does it have a RESET button?

NO = PAP2 w/ ESS = use "PAP2 unlocking thread"
YES = PAP2 ver 2.0 = USE CYT to unlock
Copyright permission granted for this handy chart to be reproduced and placed on your fridge

-----------

One last by the way.. The D-Link VTA-VR uses the TI chip, so it is running Linux. Use CYT to unlock it.

Re: CYT Device: Unlocking Information

rcilink,
Yes, I have tried to use CYT to unlock the device. As a matter of fact, I have tried with versions 3.0, 3.5 and 3.9

This is the procedure I have tried:
1. Disconnect router (Linksys WRT55AG) from Internet
2. Turn off Firewall on WinXP
3. login to the web browser of DTA-VR with user/user
4. In then run CYT, choose option #3 and change IP to
device IP, hit Enter
5. Press Option #1 and I get "Security Violation". At times
the error message will come on instantly when I hit #1
and in others the screen doesn't show the error message
for a few seconds and then boom, Security Violation.

I tried with at least 3 different versions of CYT and on a different PC and also on a Laptop, with same results.

As an off topic:

I don't recall where I got it from (since I've been reading so many different posts and in another forum (Bargainshare.com) but I stumbled onto a way to access the Provisioning page on one of the devices and got the information to download the xml file (the default one since the "Present" one was "not on the server"), which I did get. However, I can't do shitte with it because I can't get CR4 running properly on WinXP to decrypt it and get the Admin Pwd.

In a nutshell, that's how far I've gotten as far as unlocking these babies.

UPDATE:

Well Fellas,
Did more reading and I found the missing information I needed to get CYT to work. Thanks for the coaching.

I put CYT35.EXE in a folder in C:\ and ran CYT35 from a CMD prompt screen with the following syntax:
CYT35.EXE DLINK.

That did the trick to unlock the devices.

Now that they are unlocked, I want to set then up for Stanaphone.

Vtech IP8100

Hey anyone want to expand on their success with the IP8100?

I originally could log on with Vtech/vtech and user/tivonpw. CYT35 and CYT39c did nothing but tell me that I needed to log on when I was already logged on. So like an idiot, I did restore factory defaults. After doing this, I could only log on as Vtech/vtech and do basically nothing. CYT still didn't produce results. I put the unit on the internet and ran a sniffer on it. After 15 minutes, it still hadn't phoned home, so I shut the sniffer down and just let it sit. Well apparently it did phone home to Vonage at some point because now the user/tivonpw works again. I ran CYT39c and it just sits there like it didn't work, but I now notice that after a reboot when I log in as user/tivonpw. The screen now gives me a restore settings and a firmware upgrade tab.
Can anyone tell me if I am on the right track with this beast??
Thanks in advance,

Request for information

If you have configured one of these 'CYT' devices using an XML file, please send me a safe (passwords changed, etc.) copy.

I would like to get as many 'known good' configurations. This will save many people lots of hours with configuring these devices.

The XML portion of cyt is almost ready for primetime.. It now has the ability to read a properly formatted XML file and allow you to make instant changes prior to 'unlocking' your device. This will make it possible for you to combine steps. If you have a known good XML for the new provider you wish to use, simply tell the new cyt which provider and it will pick it up and include the custom changes in the unlock.

I guess it is a 2-step. Make your XML (or get a known good one) and then run CYT to unlock+configure device.

Once stable and tested, look for CYT 4.xx

I finally got into the IP8100. I had to run CYT a few times, but it eventually gave in and changed the PW. I got the decrypt key and even got the "default" vonage XML file. Once I get this unit to play nice with Asterisk, I will mod the XML and feed it to the unit.
The only issues I am having with this phone are 1 major and 1 minor.
1. Major - After about 2-3 hours, the unit just basically disappears from the network. It will get dial tone but then nothing works. I notice at this point I can't ping the base. Asterisk still shows it registered. I set the registration to 1200 on the Vtech. I keep tweaking settings hoping to overcome this issue.
2. Minor - Call waiting is not working. When in use, a second call dumps straight to voicemail. I am also tweaking this as well. The web gui kind of sucks for this unit, a lot of 0 or 1 choices rather than real parameters. I wish there was a way to dump the actual config from the unit. This would facilitate configuring it for sure.

I believe this device is based on the TI AR7 chipset, the same one used on a PAP2v2/VTA-VR. I get this kind of behaviour if I tried to configure my PAP2v2 with two lines enabled. So, R U trying to enable two lines on this device?

I am only doing 1 line. Do you think the VTA-VR docs might give me more insight into the configs for this unit?

tivonpw is the user password assigned by Vonage. You will need to have your WRTP54G provisioned by Vonage once in order for it to recognize tivonpw assuming tivonpw is still the password used/assigned by Vonage.

Porting asterisk to this router seems to be OK; however, making asterisk to work with ggsip is a bit of challenging. One way to resolve this problem is to replace ggsip with zaptel, but it ain't going to be an easy task.

To perform a firmware upgrade on a WRTP54G, you will need a user password. For a WRTP54G from Vonage, you will need to put the device on the Internet to let it get provisioned by Vonage because Vonage seems to use a single known user password for most of its VoIP devices based on a TI AR7 chipset. As with ER, who knows what the user password is. In this case, your alternative solution is to feed the modded WRTP54G-NA firmware through a TFTP server. This requires you first need to the name and location of the firmware your WRTP54G-ER will look.

Here is a strange one...

My unlocked IP8100 which kept dropping off the ip network.. well, I powered it off and on yesterday and guess what. It somehow factory default/reset and I had the standard Vonage redirect to 666 redirect "your phone is plugged into the wrong port" message. I removed all the auto provision settings and I did not do any type of fact reset. The passwords were reset that is how I know it was factory reset. Heck, the only way I know how to factory reset is through the web browser. My unit is behind a firewall, so nobody could have gotten in to mess with me..
This units behavior is very strange indeed. Well back to CYT again !!

Re: CYT Device: Unlocking Information

I will do some testing and let you know what is found..

The 'vonage' firmware loaded in these devices has a file with all the factory defaults pre-set. Those defaults include vonage tftp server info, etc. If you dont get a provision file after a certain amount of time (days? hours?), it defaults to the file and pulls from vonage. This action can be seen by reviewing the voice syslog (Linksys TI-based units have this)..

I want to test it and see how many hits ('file not found' = success) to 127.0.0.1 it wil take before it defaults to vonage. If it defaults in a fixed amount of time, then it means we will have to make a way for this device to disable provision or get a valid provision file from a non-vonage server.

---------
Anyone care to assist with interpreting the GPL license on this (Linksys GPL'd the RTP300 / WRTP54G firmware)? If we can get a good understanding of the license, then why not just change the file, removing vonage completely, and re-releasing the new firmware?

The sticky parts: Radvision SIP toolkit. This is the 'ggsip' file in the firmware that handles the actual FXS phone ports. They (manufacturer?) pay royalties to Radvision for the license to use that piece. So, no source code is provided for that part. Another part is the cfgmgr. The 'cm_logic, cm_...*' files can be found in the firmware. No source is offered for these compiled programs.

So, since the firmware GPL package exists in the first place, does that give us the right to modify it and re-package it (with it including the non-source pieces)?

Since the PAP2V2 and the Vtech IP8100 are the same chipset, I have noticed that same issue with the 8100
Now after tweaking the crap out of this phone, I think I might have fixed this problem. I have had it online since about 8pm last night. It still shows registered. If it stays on, I will post what settings I can think of. One change I did make was to put an XML in a valid tftp server and I have pointed the 8100 to that server. There is some suspicion that this device will go to sleep after so many unsuccessful attempts at pulling provisioning info.
I don't know anything about the PAP2v2, but maybe there is "unlocked" firmware that once loaded should stop any strange behavior.

OK. I can not find anything on the moto vt2442 even though all the boards mention it in passing but look at Linksys or other . I have used all the CYTs (3.5, and 3.9c) and nothing. One thing that is different on this vt2442 then what I have read on any board is that the user/passwd is router/router, not admin or user or anything like that. Vonage just sent this to me in the last 5 months. I dumped them for voipbuster, but I want to use the VT2442 since Von would not take it back. Any help unlocking this thing would be greatly appreciated? Could it be a new variant (or version) of Moto VT2442?

Did you run cyt with the MOTO param?

Eg: CYT35.EXE MOTO

You do need to login to your VT2442 device (router / router is ok).

answering my own question - if you want to change NTP-related parameters you can do it in your .xml file:

<sntp>pool.ntp.org</sntp>
<timezone>GMT+0BST-1,M3.5.0/01:00:00,M10.5.0/02:00:00
</timezone>

You may use the following link as a reference to timezone parameter:
»wiki.openwrt.org/OpenWrtDocs/Con···c2bd7343

I have VTech ip8100 phone and Timezone field is available through the web-interface but the value was not preserved on reboot. Now (after xml provisioning) everything is OK.

I want to share some results of my .XML investigations:

This is re-registration timer, in milliseconds (!)
<REG_EXPIRE_TIMER>60000</REG_EXPIRE_TIMER>
with this default value adapter will send REGISTER message every minute, while most of hard/soft-phones are set to 3600 sec by default (60min or 1 hour). Personally I set it to 10 min (600000 in .xml file).

If you are using your adapter outside of US ;) you may want to enable G.711A codec and probably others:

<TELEPHONE_EVENT_PT>101</TELEPHONE_EVENT_PT>
<PCMU_PT>0</PCMU_PT>
<PCMA_PT>8</PCMA_PT>
<G726_40_PT>21</G726_40_PT>
<G726_32_PT>2</G726_32_PT>
<G726_16_PT>23</G726_16_PT>
<G726_24_PT>22</G726_24_PT>
<G729_PT>18</G729_PT>
<G723_PT>4</G723_PT>

Hope it helps and some day we will be able to prepare the complete reference to the .xml provisioning file format.

Is there something unique about the WRTP5G with stock firmware 1.00.20 that keeps it from being unlocked using any version of CYT?

CYT will not work with the 1.00.20 firmware..

A suggested solution (if it had previously been used with vonage):

1. Hook your WRTP54G with 1.00.20 firmware to the Internet
2. Press and hold reset using a paperclip in the pinhole on back
3. Apply power to device
4. After about 40 secs, lights will all blink. Remove paperclip
5. Let it sit there, on the Internet. It should get new firmware (1.00.62)

* Unlike the Linksys PAP2 (v1) and Sipura products, it is OK to let this one upgrade to the 1.00.62 firmware.

6. You can open a web browser and check the built-in page (top right) to see what firmware is loaded.
7. Use CYT (3.5 is reportedly more stable) to unlock it when it is 1.00.62.

Can you perform a firmware upgrade? If so, then you can unlock this beast and perhaps completely remove Vonage, a.k.a. turn it into a WRTP54G-NA.

I never heard of this trick.

As rcilink has already pointed out and unless you can perform a firmware upgrade, you will need to let this unit phone home to Vonage so that it will get provisioned with a known user password, i.e. tivonpw (unless Vonage has recently changed this to a new one), then use this user/tivonpw to perform a firmware upgrade (chances are Vonage will have pushed in for a new firmware).

No subscription needed. Simply plug the thing into a live "Internet" cable and let it do the dirty work.

Worst case, prime it by hitting the RESET pinhole while powering up.

Check it after lunch/dinner and it should be done (upgraded).

Yes, both. A new (never-used) unit should upgrade if the firmware is not current (to vonage standards). This is set in the XML file it will provision with.

A used unit with older firmware should also update when hooked to the Internet.

In either case, you should not need to sign-up for Vonage service.. Simply hook it to the Internet and see what happens. If nothing, try the reset pinhole..

Hello! First I would like to thank the moderators and contributors for this enlightening thread. Second, if this post belongs in another PLEASE redirect me! ;) There doesn't seem to be much specific info on the VT2442 (Vonage hangover...) so I thought I would share my limited experience unlocking it, for what its worth, as well as a few noob questions. I fought both cyt apps until I reset my router to the stock settings. I used the cyt35 ultimately to unlock. My VT2442 now has 3 confirmed log-ins; Admin/Admin, user/tivonpw, and router/router. Logging in with "router" gives the locked appearance in the gui. I contrived my xml w/madmatrix's tiYOURMAC file (found earlier in this thread), Jolpot's Guide for the D-Link VTA-VR @ bargainshare.com (Thank You!), and the Vonage file I decrypted. Naturally I had some trouble getting my router to request my file using a tftp (PumpKIN finally worked) so I tried the built-in Import/Export Configuration Utility under "Tools". Anyone have any luck with this angle? It exports a .bin ... After a lot of frustration I configured my system from my (192.168.15.2 static) nic on my computer, to a hub, then TWO outs to the VT2442; one to the "Internet" connection and one to an "Ethernet" connection. I logged out of the ATA before I attempted the transfer. I had also enabled "Allow Incoming Ping" in the "Port Forwarding" tab, and put my computer (192.168.15.2) in a DMZ. All other settings on the Motorola were factory presets (left over from initial unlock setup). Dunno how much of my effort was superstition, but it's how I finally got it to work even with limited VT2442 specific info. If you are having trouble with yours, READ THE THREADS!!! Then read 'em again! And putting all needed apps and files in one folder helps a lot at command line!
Has anyone configured Freedigits and Internetcalls with one of these? Or the pbxs.com? I haven't tested my script yet but would like to hear some success stories with this beast!

Re: CYT Device: Unlocking Information

hey kawaisunn
I have my vt2442 configured for freedigits and voipcheap/freecall etc, and all you have to do is to get an XML (which you seem to have already done by getting madmatrix's tiYOURMAC file) and update your settings to the file for freedigits and internetcall. From your 2442 admin provisioning url, point it to your tftpserver with the new updates and reboot your 2442, and it should pick up the new files and configure itself. Check my prior posts for getting calls on line 2 into Line 1, and if you setup internetcall as line 1 and freedigits as line2, you should be set. Also there is an annoying echo , be sure to add the new settings from the vta-vr thread (page 22) »[General] DLink VTA-VR for getting rid of the echo. I personally have not tried the settings yet on 2442, but they work on vta-vr.

new release: CYT 4.6 [beta]

New version of CYT.. 4.6
------------------------

Some testing has been done to ensure it actually will unlock a device. Since it is still in beta, test it and reply here with your results.

Some changes found in version 4.6:

- XML customization option. (USE OPTION 3 - set device IP - before selecting this option!) Use this to set your SIP settings and unlock / feed the settings to your device. The settings will be changed while unlocking the device. If you use this option, it is important to keep the XML format in the same order.. The XML parser does rough checking for validity... If you want to make a XML to config your device for another service, simply copy the 'generic-sample.xml' to 'generic.xml'. (You may use an XML editor to change tag values, but dont change the tag order.. cyt will not read it if the order is changed.)

- Custom 'Admin' and 'user' passwords can be set. This will allow you to unlock the device, and keep it secure.

- add DLINK to command line when trying to unlock a D-Link VTA (or VWR) device. Forgetting to do this may present you with 'security violation'.

------
Looking for anyone who can take the 'generic-sample.xml' and make changes for use with a SIP VoIP provider.. If you want it to be included with the next release, post it here.

If you do this, please use the 'generic-sample.xml' as a template. You can add missing XML tags, if needed.

Re: new release: CYT 4.6 [beta]

The problem with making a "one size fits all" firmware for these devices is this:

- Linksys uses a different partition layout than the others
- Linksys partitions on RTP300/WRTP54G are different on PAP2v2
- LED driver is different on D-Link from Linksys.
- Different Code pattern codes for Linksys versions.
- Firmware upgrade by web interface much harder than failsafe loader.

- I am just thinking of some of the things..

---

I have tried:

- I loaded RTP300 firmware on the PAP2 v2.0 unit. It did run, somewhat. I had problems with the fact that the RTP300 is a 'router' with WAN and LAN interfaces. The PAP2 v2 has only one LAN port. It did come up, but on RTP300, LAN offers DHCP server-- on PAP2 v2, no DHCP server, just client.

- I am trying to avoid any major patching of firmware to do this trick, but it looks like we may end up having to repackage the RTP300 firmware with PAP2v2 overlayed to pick-up some of the things like DHCP client mode, no WAN port, etc.

on another project, I also had loaded PAP2 v2.0 firmware on the D-Link VTA device. Again, the project was to get the Asterisk PBX running, so it did not have the normal SIP package (ggsip) loaded.. So, it did run, but not a complete test. I will have to load a PAP2 v2.0 firmware without modification on this VTA device to verify if it will run the FXS ports with the D-Link VTA hardware layout.

To be serious with these kinds of projects, you either need a flash chip programmer, or a serial console cable. Without a tool like this, you risk making your device into something completely useless!

If anyone has expert googling abilities, please join this search:

We are looking for a firmware that is used on a Horstbox being sold as a D-Link DVA-G3342SB. This is the 'Professional' model (they also have a standard model).

If anyone can find the firmware for that model, we will be very close to done with a universal firmware for this hardware.

It appears that this specific D-Link device is released in Germany. Brush-up on your German skills and send some messages to those who own them. Perhaps they will kindly make a copy of the firmware. (either the actual file or using 'dd' on the device to copy off partitions..)

Thanks!

:(Even with this CYT 4.6 I wasn't able to unlock my WRTP54G.

None of the CYT version were recognized.
SOLUTION:
:D- Thanks ricilink
:D- Thanks Mazilo
You both "inspired" me...
so:
IF the CYT doesn't go through the wrtp54g,
- link it to Internet (don't run any factory cd)
- factory reset it (keeping pressed the reset on the back)
- leave it for a bit (I left it overnight)
- switch off and start again the procedure, so
- access with 192.168.15.1 admin/admin
- forget any CYT, just
:D- go NOW into 192.168.15.1/update.htm user/tivonpw
(I know: it didn't work BEFORE! but it will work now!)
- update finally the FW

Other considerations:
:o- Somehow something changed, and I could access 192.168.15.1/update.htm with user/tivonpw that didn't work earlier!
:uhh:- this kind of provisioning didn't change the FW release
- CYT seems not to be working with this piece.

I hope this can help some of our friends.

I think the common version for WRTP54G (vonage) is/was 1.00.62. I have also seen 3.1.20, but am not sure if that one was pushed by Vonage yet.

1. hook your wrtp54g up to the net and let it provision itself to vonage. It should be done in less than 1-2 minutes.

2. Once it has done that, try to get to the update.htm page with user / tivonpw. If that works, you can upgrade to unlocked fw.

Let us know how this works out.

The tivonpw password doesn't work.
tivonpw is a user password assigned by Vonage through a provision. A factory default Linksys/Vonage WRTP54G has no such password for its user account.

Re: CYT Device: Unlocking Information

Hello all - I just bought a VTech IP 8100 this week in Phoenix (Sharper Image is clearing them out for $39.95), and would love to unlock it. I have read through this thread (and the other ones) and have seen lots of tips. However, even though I have disabled my Windows XP firewall, tried from 3 PCs (all directly connected), even tried both IE and FireFox, etc., I still can't get CYT to get past the "Security Violation" screen. I have used CYT 3.5, 3.9, and 4.6, but no dice (even from the command prompt with the vtech switch). I have also logged in as Vtech and "user", but it still can't see me as logged in to the IP 8100. Help! Any tips? If someone can help me, that would be most appreciated! Do you need to be hooked up to the Internet (via the WAN port) for this to work?

Re: new release: CYT 4.6 [beta]

Hmm,

Possibly, you are holding a WRTP54G unit with a really old firmware on it. Any chance you can hook it to the Internet and perform a Factory Reset on it?

Then, let it sit there for a half hour or less and see if it will update the firmware to 1.00.62 or something... ?

---------------
As for using CYT on unlocked units, CYT will not work on the firmware starting with v3.1.x versions. If you have updated the firmware, then it will not unlock using CYT.

If you unlocked a unit running 1.00.62, and hit the reset button (factory defaults), it should unlock again using CYT.

Before hooking the router to the Internet to let it get provisioned by Vonage, is there a possibility this firmware has some flaws to allow firmware upgrades without even a login as user/Admin? If so, then there is a way to hack this.

When you have unlocked your ATA, you should be able to access its Provision menu to grab the GPP_K (encryption key). Then, using this encryption key, you can decrypt the provision files manually downloaded from the provision server. With this encryption key and the downloaded set of provision files in sequence, you should be able to find the Admin password of your provisioned ATA device to access and make the necessary modifications; however, what you won't be able to do is to modify the provision files on the provision servers and these provision files can easily over write the existing configuration of your provisioned device.

Re: Now i am in trouble with CYT...

remember.. if you use CYT46 and do a simple unlock (not use Custom XML option), you will see screen just before it goes to the "Simple XML server" part.

On that screen, you can set/change the passwords to use to unlock your box.

The password for the Admin account does not have to be "Admin", you can put anything in there now.

Same goes for the user account.

I would suggest you do this:
(since you loaded 1.00.64)

•Try login of Admin with no password (leave it blank). If that work's then you're done. Upgrade away.

If that does not work, then try these steps:
1. Factory reset the device. Do this by holding in reset button for almost full minute (and plug-in while holding button). LEDs will blink, and it will eventually reload defaults.

2. Try login to device. If reset, you can not login as user to /update.html page. (it will say 'disabled')

3. Run CYT46 and select your Admin and user passwords- then unlock.

Now, if it worked, you're done!

•If it did not work and this was really a VONage device, you could always try to let it provision itself. Hook to net and powercycle unit. Now try to login to /update.html as user with 'tivonpw' password.

Hope this helps you get back in..

I can login with it right after an unlock but if I were to walk away from my pc and go out for lunch, when I came back it would say username and password errors.

If I re-unlock the device I can get back in and it doesnt revert to vonage settings or anything but it doesnt last. I have tried doing a factory reset and re-unlocking as well as several versions of cyt but it didnt work.

I am trying to configure this to work with viatalk service. I have never had a fully functional voip line in the 6 months ive been paying for it. Originally I couldnt get incoming, now I cant get incoming OR outgoing. When I woudl tweak the device it would only allow me to call out for a short time then stop working. After dialing I dont hear anything - no busy/fast busy/error/ etc just blank. Viatalk told me I need to be able to configure dtmf but I cant find it anywhere in here.

I wonder if the service stops working because its losing it login information. Anyone else have this issue?

Yes, there is a way and this has been discussed here several times. I am not about to tell you how to do this because your device is still bound to a contract with your VoSP. If your device is not bound to any contract with your VoSP, then make your own XML file to contain your primary/secondary VoIP lines and feed, a.k.a. provision, it to your device. If you don't know how to do this, then it is better to leave your device provisioned by your VoSP. Otherwise, you may run into termination sanctions by your VoSP that may cost you more in the long run. You have been warned!

Who is your VoSP on Line1? If you are not under any contract with any VoSP on Line1, then your device should not be locked by the VoSP. If it is still locked and servicing by VoSP, then you are bound by their TOS, AFAIK.

I have a WRTP54G with Vonage firmware v. 1.00.60. I wan to flash it w/ the new linksys fw to get all the functions enabled. You can't do anything on this bad boy. what really ticking me off if it doesnt allow for assigning static IPs within the LAN.
I ran cty4.6, i came back w/ the user/pass but they dont work. i cycled the router as suggested and nothing. i tired this a few month ago an got nowhere...any advice?

I saw somewhere that vonage started adding 666 to the dial plan.
Could that have anything to do with it?

I dont think the router is still talking to vonage. I had it unlocked from vonage. I am using the following settings in my xml file (changed the number and password below). Not sure if I need to add anything else in here.

<NET_REG_CHECK>0</NET_REG_CHECK>

hi rat,

not sure if this helps; I can receive calls from ipkall and make outgoing calls to 800#

settings I entered manually on a cisco 7940 phone, no dial plan.

Re: CYT Device: Unlocking Information

Thanks Mazi. I tried using Number instead of Number@fwd.pulver.com and that did not help. After provisioning the router with Number in user name field instead of Number@fwd.pulver.com, I tried dialing 612 (time test on FWD) a couple of times and called myself a couple of times (to test incoming calls). I am still able to receive calls but no outgoing calls. The router has a system log for voice. I am cutting and pasting the log here. If anyone can make sense of this, I would appreciate it very much. This is what the system log looks like now:

Answer is in the log:

You have
0000495769 - Expires: 60

but server says it's too low and offering you allowed minimum (600)

0000495845 - SIP/2.0 600 Too Frequent Requests

You should set the right value:

Re: CYT Device: Unlocking Information

Possibly try this:

dial 123#

(put the '#' on the end of your number being dialed)

While doing this, refresh the logs (the same place u captured above from)..

The INVITE should show in there.

123 being an invalid number should give you a fast busy signal. But, it at least sent the request. Let us know if this does return a fast busy.

Re: CYT Device: Unlocking Information

I have a similar problem. My PAP2V2 works fine for about a week when suddenly i stop being able to dial out (fast busy signal after dialing first digit on both lines which are set up with different VOIP's). Incoming calls still work fine. This happens regularly and then i have to jump throgh hoops to reset it. It is very annoying and I can't seem to fix it for good( I tried even feeding my own xml file etc). I am just about to give up on the PAP2V2.

Re: CYT Device: Unlocking Information

I think there is some hardware issue with my VT2442. Now, the power light is red all the time and doesn't change to green even if I reboot/reset it. It is also unable to store the xml file I am sending it. After every reboot, I have to re-unlock it and reprovision it. I am getting a PAP2 and will trash the VT2442 once my PAP2 arrives.

thanks very much for this release. i have put an old rtp300 to good use again. unlike the old versions, this one worked immediately. only downside is that it seems to work with only 1 line. any newer versions that will allow me to use both line 1 & 2?

Interesting Steve006
Hello, Boogerman69.
Was this annoying problem really fixed ? If so, could you kindly post the settings you used to fix the problem ?

You can email me the reponse: boon(underascore)kang(at)yahoo(dot)com.

Is this the end of CYT ?

A while ago CYT 4.6 stopped working for latest firmware versions. Then for a while the 'downgrade first' solution worked. Now it looks like they have changed the tivonpw password so a downgrade could not be made. Does any one now if there is a new password ? If not then this is the end of using CYT ?

I bought a PAP2 v2 from bestbuy. It came with firmware 1.00.13. I let Vonage upgrade it to firmware 1.00.16.

I was still able to unlock it using CYT although I had problems getting the generic.xml configuration file to update the phone adapter.

Which firmware version doesn't work?

When you had your device unlocked, did you make/safe a copy of the encryption key along with the Vonage server, XML path/file names? If so, then you can manually retrieve/decrypt this XML provision file to find out what password is for the user account.

Of course I did for the device unlocked in the past. I now am talking about another device which was let say until yesterday in service with Vonage and it has never been unlocked. I have encountered or I have seen reports for PAP2 (1.0.22), Motorola , Vtech, WRTP54G: on the latest firmware CYT does not work and a downgrade could not be performed (as I did before) because could not log in as I could before.
For lyh put as user user not router

From the past experience, Vonage seems to have use a more general user password. If you suspect Vonage has change user password from tivonpw to something else, then download the XML provision file for the device you have its encryption key. Then, decrypt the file to find what is the current user password. If it is still the same as tivonpw, then you will need to wait for other readers to find out the new user password used by Vonage.

Unfortunately line with the userpwd setting is missing from new xml files (just downloaded them from default directory and then the second one from second directory). As a result if you have a device that is new or has been reset to factory defaults or it has been provisioned just recently, then even after provisioning the user password is probably unchanged - the same as when the device was new (factory defaults)

So, this means the user (probably including the Admin) account on your PAP2v2 will have a factory default password even after it has been provisioned by Vonage. If this is true, then it is time to crack the Admin password hashed key of a PAP2v2 which I believe is the same one for every PAP2v2 units sold out there. In this case, we need to find someone who has a supercomputer to crack this hashed key using John The Ripper Password Cracker.

Re: CYT Device: Unlocking Information

I tried unlocking a PAP2 v2. I was able to unlock it successfully with CYT46. However the generic.xml file did not get uploaded to the phone adapter. I'd make changes to the file, resync and it wouldn't show the changes. There are many fields in the xml file which can't be accessed via the menus.

Does it work to upload the XML file? Is there some trick to it?

I believe you can manually edit the XML file using a notepad editor on a Windows OS.

True for user, not true for admin: only the userpwd setting is missing in xml files, the adminpwd is present in the first downloaded file (default directory) and it does contain a value unique for each adapter.
My hope is that there will be a new version of CYT that will unlock the new firmware versions (or if someone knows that is not possible, then say it).

Re: CYT Device: Unlocking Information

This has been driving me nuts while I search around the net - I'm trying to flash a vt2442 and i understand that the firmware version I have (11.4) seems impervious to unlocking. To do so I've been trying to find 11.1 to that I can downgrade the firmware and handle it. But, all I've found (all over the net) are people acknowledging this and looking for the old version of the firmware. Could someone please give me some idea as to where to find the firmware (if it's possible at all?)??

Thanks!

Re: CYT Device: Unlocking Information for Vtech IP8100

Although IP8100 is built on the same hardware as RTP300, PAP2-V2,etc, but unlike the rest, this is a cordless phone, it supports only 1 line instead of 2 lines and it does not use IVR. Therefore, I suspect its firmware is not compatible from other CYT devices (i.e. you can not load firmare of PAP2-NA onto IP8100 to get a totally unlocked IP8100 like you can with other CYT devices).

Furthermore, IP8100 seems to have this unigue freezing and resetting problem which requires further handling after unlocking using CYT unlock software. I posted on the other thread the remedial procedure, I am posting here for wider exposure and discusion (hoping that experts like Mazilo, Rcilink and others can provide more insights to the nature of IP8100):

procedure to prevent the freezing and resetting after CYT unlocking (first draft)

1. Upgrade firmware from vtech-11.4.0-r060330-4.016.1-r000015 to vtech-11.4.1-r070125-4.019.1-r000015. (NOTE. You should NOT upgrade prior to the unlocking - it was reported that CYT may not work with the new firmware).

2. Copy the decrypted xml file to create a new copy of ti(MAC-address).xml, and edit as follows:

3. setup a tftp server on the same LAN as the IP8100. Deposit the new xml file created and edited earlier in the folder /vtech of the tftp server. (the idea is for IP8100 to do the provisioning with this "safe" copy of xml file -- instead of the Vonage copy).

4.Log into IP8100 admin page 192.168.15.1 with Admin/Admin account and edit the provisioning page as suggested by Andrew_Z:

NOTE: 192.168.5.77 is the ip address of PC where the tftp is running.

NOTE. The purpose of steps 2, 3 and 4 are necessary to prevent IP8100 from doing auto-provisioning with the VONAGE xml file which causes the freezing and resetting (and re-locking ?) problems.

My questions about this procedure:

1. The value of 900000 in the interval field suggests that IP8100 will retrieve the config file from tftp://192.168.5.77 every 9000 secconds (150 minutes), this means the setup of tftp server must be there permanently (at least when IP8100 is online). Why can't we set a very large value like 9000000 X 100000 which would yield
over 30 years for IP8100 to retrieve teh config file, so that we don't need to depend on our tftp server ?

2. There are 2 things we need to change/edit: first is the decrypted config file ti(MAC-address).xml which we deposit with the tftp server, second is the IP8100 admin page 192.168.15.1. The modifed admin page will cause IP8100 to download the config file ti(MAC-address).xml from our tftp server, would this config file update the admin page again ? If yes, would new admin page cuase IP8100 to retrieve config file from Vonage when the device goes online (i.e. connect to Internet) ?

Any success unlocking IP8100 from VTECH lately?

I did everything as it described here but still getting Security Validation. You must login to your device … message when try to use any option from CYT.
What I did:

* Connected directly to the device.
* Open internet browser and logged in to the device using VTECH as password (found 2 ways of loggin in: user + user and vtech + vtech - this one seems to be admin level as it provide much more options to play with. admin + admin didn't work)
* Turned off windows firewall and virus protection
* Opened port 2400
* Tried over and over with all versions of CYT from 3.0 to 4.6
* From Status Screen: Firmware Version: 11.4.1-r070125
Release Number: 4.019.1-r000015
Bootloader Version: 1.3.3.1101

Still no lack.

If anybody has any ideas please help! Thanks.

How can I extract the files (including password file) or the hashed key from the eprom image ? I'm thinking that maybe we can find out if there is or not one factory default password for admin or user

Sure. The faster the computer, the faster the brute force program (JTR) will find the password(s).

You should not get security violation... make sure to run from command line w/VTECH argument like... C:\cyt46.exe VTECH

It will probably hang at "Simple XML provision server is waiting for you device"... I have 4 w/that version haven't unlocked.
