The most likely cause of this is 'Afterglow', ie. there are still some clients/indexing servers which have your ip address listed as a source for a particular file.

It is also entirely possible that you were being scanned but it is very unlikely that this was linked to your use of Limewire.

Maybe, maybe not. But I see much fewer now. What I considered suspicious probes were aimed at standard ports (21, 23, 80, etc.) not attempted connections to ports used by Limewire. Could be coincidence...
