Rebuilt cabinet.

A couple of my sighted friends helped me rebuild my cabinet. I'm not completely pleased with cable management, but I haven't got the chance to reroute the cables yet (especially power).

Bear with me on photo descriptions, I'm working from notes I recorded on my tape recorder as we were taking pictures.

Alpha, good job on the rack. I like the variety of equipment and the fact that it is all being used. The scanner sounds very good and I have added it to my list to listen to.

Re: Rebuilt cabinet.

To answer a few questions I've been asked:
The labels and LCD aren't for me. They are for my friends who help me work on this stuff.

As for the bike, I don't ride it on the street (that wouldn't be good), I have a stand that it sits in and I ride it like an exercise bike. (It was cheaper this way)

The fibers aren't as bad as they look. I should have taken the pictures at a better angle.

Is this a new rack, I recall you posted some pics awhile ago of a similar rack but it appeared much smaller then this one - nice though. :)

Yeah, it's new. The old one was 22U and this one is 42. I bought it from the manager of my apartment building (for $100...:) )

Nice, I thought it was new. WOW it seems very deep as well, lots of room at the back behind the equipment. Thanks for sharing it.

Hey man. Not sure if you remember but I sold you the 3 com switch. How has the text to speech been for the 3 com? Just wanted to say the rack looks GREAT! As many have said the bigger the rack the better, I totally agree! Do you have any plans to run ESX or some other variant?

Nice rack!

Have you considered serving your scanner over at »www.scanamerica.us ?

TTS on the web interface works but isn't that great, so I use the telnet interface when I have to get into it. I don't use it very often because it seems to crash under load (even though it's probably something I'm doing wrong). I don't know what ESX is...

ffblackie:
The scanner is already being served at scanamerica.
It's the Fire/EMS scanner at »boone.mo.scanamerica.us/

I love the depth of the rack, I can actually use the rails for the servers. I need a few more sets, but I'll probably have to go with the universal ones from Gruber for the UPS's and the other two servers, since I can't find rails for them.

Re: Rebuilt cabinet.

Damn man im sorry to hear that. What do you mean by crash under load? I have two more of the exact same switch, I would be more then happy to send you another.

By the way, I have the same rackmount case (the one that you have labled freenas). Its an excellent case, the 7 hard drive bays make for a great storage server.

Re: Rebuilt cabinet.

It seems to reboot itself when I put a lot of traffic through it. I lose connectivity for 30 seconds or so, then it's fine until I do it again. Since I can't see the lights, I have no idea what's going on.

I love that Compucase case. I just found out directron.com has the rails for it, so I will be ordering those soon. Right now I have 4 drives in it. 1 OS drive, and 3 500GB drives in RAID 5.

Re: Rebuilt cabinet.

Again I'm sorry about the switch, I wish I would have found out sooner. I have two more of these available... would you like me to send it to you?
