327W - Not Assigned IP - Limited Connectivity
As of yesterday I've lost all connectivity with my Windows XP SP3 desktop PC. This uses a Trendnet 802.11b USB wifi adaptor to connect to a D90 327W router. For several months I had no issues connecting between the desktop and router. After a few months, I would return to my PC and see that the USB key wouldn't see the router anymore. I could either restart my computer, or unplug and replug into a different USB slot to reconnect. After a while that wouldn't work so I would power cycle the router to reconnect. This would happen sporadically, maybe once a week.
Well yesterday, I returned to my computer and I only see the exclamation point error stating that there is limited or no connectivity. I power cycle the router and nothing changes. I can't get the computer to access the internet. When I restart the computer the wifi will connect but then stated limited or no activity. When I look at status it says invalid IP. I tried assigning a static ip which will change the status to connected but still no access to the network. (Can't access router). Looking at the router from a separate pc shows that nothing is connected wirelessly even when the PC shows a connected status. I thought this might be a router problem, but a reset does nothing. I tried rolling back the router firmware, but that does nothing. I went as far as to reinstall Windows but that again does nothing. ?Not sure what the issue is.
I can connect fine to the wireless fine through my other laptop. So the wireless connection is working. I should note I never had any problems other than with the PC.
I don't have another windows xp computer to test the wifi usb adaptor but I don't think that's the problem. The scan/connect still works fine.
Anybody have any ideas?

Re: 327W - Not Assigned IP - Limited Connectivity
Since you can connect with other computers, it is not a problem with the Westell 327w. It could be an interference problem, though I would expect that to also affect the laptop. It could be a network card problem (your USB card in this case). It could be a placement problem - the location of the card antenna might be such that the signal strength is weak. Or perhaps Windows networking over USB devices is not as reliable as with installed cards.

Re: 327W - Not Assigned IP - Limited Connectivity
Thanks for the reply. Two other laptops can connect to the 327w without problems. One is a XP home, and another is a Vista home. The signal strengths are excellent on all computers so it's not a signal strength problem.
The last problem would be the USB, but considering it has worked (with problems) for over a year prior to this I don't think that's it. I'll test the USB on a different computer to see if it has any problems.
