Westell 327w stopping replying to ping & weird stuff

Hi all,

I'm using a westell 327w on verizon. Periodically I check my security via shieldsup!

On past occasions I've passed all the tests with no errors. This time I've failed the stealthmode analysis because I'm replying to pings.

I searched this site, and found someone else with the same issue. I attempted to login to my modems admin screen and was directed to something I've never seen before, the "versalink wireless gateway" (is this normal?) anyhow I can't find how I can turn off "reply to ping" anywhere.

While looking for this switch, I checked the "My Network" settings. Please see the attachment for what came up. I recognized "NewPC" but I don't recognize the other three. I don't have the wireless enabled on this modem so can I delete this? what about deleting the others? was my modem "hacked"?

Thanks, just trying to "harden" up my defences.

I don't recall a setting to block ping (sorry, not currently running my 327w, so I can't check).

Don't let Steve Gibson's paranoia get to you.

The router I am currently using does allow me to turn off ping. I leave it turned on. I cannot think of any good reason to turn it off, and having it on is sometimes useful. For example, the line quality test at dslreports wants it on.

The chances are that those strange systems from the "My Network" screen will disappear if you reboot the modem.

Thanks for the fast reply!

Rebooted the modem, yep, all gone..wish I knew what they were. I set my modem firewall security settings to medium. I guess if it's not harmful I'll leave the ping on.
