Westell 9100em problem with VOIP and ALG

I'm having problems with my VOIP service after Verizon FiOS installed a Westell 9100em router last week. Calling out is fine until a call is received then I only receive busy signals. Phone Power tech support traced it down to a problem with the Westell's ALG support. To quote PP support:


I had the data reviewed and was able to find out that the reason we are denying the call is because even though the SIP traffic for registration was transmitted on the correct port, the outgoing invite was swapped to some arbitrary port and this is why we are turning it away. The ALG in your 9100 is good, but not good enough, as it manages to send the registration traffic out on the wrong port, but the invitation for the call gets shot out where ever it feels like (strangely enough it receives incoming calls without mixing up ports though.).


Hoping someone has a suggestion to work around this? I'm going to try following up with Verizon tech support tonight, but I'm not too hopeful.

I've had a 9100 for over a month now, and Vonage, Viatalk as well as Skype all function normally without any tweaks at all. These devices are in constant communications with their "Motherships" so an incoming call works on the same principal as a response. Maybe just try a hard reset on the Westell?

Thanks for the info. I'm pretty much at an impasse with PhonePower and Verizon and need to solicit for voip recommendations.

PhonePower says the router's SIP ALG is defective and Verizon tech support doesn't have any suggestions. Don't want to sound too negative, both companies' tech support was actually pretty good. We're just in a little too deep here.

Bummer, I really like PhonePower :(

Have you verified what ports it is sending it out on via the connection list? You can find the connection list in the firewall section.
You may be able to setup some egress rules so it sent out on the same port as specified by the device (if it is sending it out different ports). I havent tried that or needed to with Vonage.
