3000/512Kbps plan slower than 1500/384Kbps

I recently switched to a DSL Extreme 3000/512Kbps plan after leaving my old DSL providers 1500/384Kbps service. DSL Extreme and my old provider both use AT&T/SBC. I still live at the same address and still use the same wiring and equipment. As you can see below, the switch to the 3000/512Kbps plan has seriously slowed things down.

The modem stats look the same as they did with my old provider:

Westell 6100 E

Transceiver Revision: 6.2.0.211
Vendor ID Code: 4
Line Mode: G.DMT Mode
Data Path: Fast

Transceiver Information - Down Stream Path - Up Stream Path
DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec) - 3008 - 512
Margin (dB) - 15.5 - 21.0
Line Attenuation (dB) - 10.5 - 5.5
Transmit Power (dBm) - 2.2 - 4.9

Can anyone at DSLX help?

I tested your line and am showing that you are in sync at the full 3008/512. Your line readings are listed below. Have you tried a full power cycle of the DSL modem computer and or router since the switch over?

DN STREAM SPEED The line is running at the maximum bit rate of 3008 kbps.
UP STREAM SPEED The line is running at the maximum bit rate of 512 kbps.
DN STREAM S/N The line noise margin is 13.0dB, which is above the target noise margin of 6.0dB.
UP STREAM S/N The line noise margin is 19.5dB, which is above the target noise margin of 6.0dB.
DN STREAM POWER The line power is 2.5dBm, which is below the maximum of 16.0dBm.
UP STREAM POWER The line power is 8.5dBm, which is below the maximum of 13.0dBm.
DN STREAM LINE CAPACITY The line is running at 62.0% of relative capacity on downstream transmission path.
UP STREAM LINE CAPACITY The line is running at 51.0% of relative capacity on upstream transmission path.

Thanks

Re: 3000/512Kbps plan slower than 1500/384Kbps

Thanks for the quick response! I have tried power cycling the modem and the computer but it didn't help. I also have Speedstream 5200 and 4100B modems, trying them made no difference in performance.

On edit: I also tried shortening my modem to telco jack cord from 12' to 6'... didn't have any effect on problem. It seems the slowdown started immediatealy after the phone company raised my speed to 3000/512Kbps.
My guess is Ma Bell screwed something up on their end.

Re: 3000/512Kbps plan slower than 1500/384Kbps

Well, nothing has changed, still slow performance. I received a call
to call 866-491-7221 to talk about ticket [Removed for privacy]. I received the usual tech support song and dance about wiring problems inside the house or spyware or
viruses on my computer. Interesting how the problems started as soon as
I "upgraded" to 3000/512. As for viruses and spyware, this is a quadruple
boot computer-32 and 64 bit Linux, Windows XP SP3 Home with all updates
and Windows 7 RC. I doubt all four operating systems are infected-especially
Linux. The tech I talked to offered to open a ticket with AT&T, but said
I would probably be charged by them to look into the problem. No thanks,
I am not paying to fix someone else's mistakes.

Oh well, live and learn. I seriously regret signing up for a one year contract.

Re: 3000/512Kbps plan slower than 1500/384Kbps

Tried again connecting directly to the grey telephone network interface
box on the back of the house, there was no change in performance at
all. I disconnected the user accessible wire and plugged my cables into
that jack.
I have three different 6 foot cables and two different computers. I tried each of the cables with each of the computers, performance was the same as in the above posts, well below what I should get on an 3000/512Kbps connection.
So much for the faulty wiring in my house theory.

Someone called earlier this afternoon and opened a ticket with AT&T, was it you?
If not, do you still need my account info?

Just a quick note. AT&T was just here and the the problem
is fixed. AT&T had failed to change something in their redback
router when I upgraded to a higher speed. :uhh:
