Calling to cancel service

I've heard that when you call to cancel ATT SE/Bellsouth will offer to lower the coast of the internet service.

Is this true?

I have DSL Extreme 6.0. What would they actually lower the price to? And would this just be a temporary price adjustment?

Re: Calling to cancel service

Some people have claimed that they were offered temporary reduced pricing if they didn't cancel. It's probably true.

Why don't you call them and ask what they can do? Then you can tell us. :)

Isn't that the cost when the add in the "bundle discount" of 5.00 off the regular price of 42.95?

Yes its true and you probably have read one of my many posts related to getting discount as I advised so many folks to do. If you scare them by calling in to canceling your AT&T HSI just push it a little bit saying you will drop every service you have with them :P if it does not work say you can not pay for it due to poor economy and you need to cut back and say you have another entity in your local area who provides superior HSI tier for fraction of your current ISP's cost you don't have to name them just hint them to Cable Ops and they will get he idea as they know for a fact they can't compete thus they will give it to you just to keep your service as they don't want to be another victim of Triple Play Cable BS fiasco. Even with the deep discount they are still making enormous profit if you take in the cost of true bandwidth.

As being part of the scene lol I am a veteran of getting internet access for low price or free so I have these type of information when its avaliable. Even with the days of dialup I had 5-6years full free dialup access till I moved on to HSI and just pay for the damn thing couldn't live with that 5.3kB/s.

PS: The discount I was offered was 2 x $10 credits issued on my AT&T HSI bill for 6 months. So the normal price is $42.95 which was reduced to $22.95 in same bill. Hey I can't say I complain other than to pick on the Death Star for wasting everyones time on bullshit, then again $22.95 is what the 6mbps tier should cost with shit ass 512kbps upstream which is capped at 430kbps in my end.

And do I just call the regular service line and say cancel?

Re: Calling to cancel service

Buddy I know what you are talking about as I been where you are lol now only reason I even have DSL is for $22.95/month as I firmly believe its what everyone should pay for 6mbps/512kbps tier. The day they refuse to extend that discount is the day I say FU and drop everything with them and move on as I did with dialup and never look back.

Look in your AT&T bill it will give you toll free number for HSI department just skip the automated BS by pressing 0 and speak to one of the Reps. So good luck $120 is alot of money, not really but ill sleep better few nights knowing Death Star didn't get it.

Re: Calling to cancel service

Yes they will offer all kinds of goodies to get you to stay(free equipment, free service, discounts). It's worked for ATT four times so far in the last two weeks, but if we have to call just one more time, there won't be enough free goodies to get us to stay.

Why would you feel the need to make that statement?

Are you thinking about canceling your service now after we spent all that time tweaking your computer to squeeze every little kilobit per second that your FastAccess DSL Xtreme 6.0 connection can provide?

I may still cancel. The main reason is that I need faster upload speeds....
but the jury is still out.

Cost is an issue with everyone if you can find a faster service for less, I would go for it otherwise if I can't I would milk the cow as long as you can for the least amount of money.

Do what is best for you.

Wonder how user HKM has extreme 6.0 for $22.95/month, I haven't heard of this deal.

If they are offering 22.95 a month for 6.0 service just proves to me no upstream increase any time soon.
