Newsgroup quality?
I'm thinking of switching to DSLX fiber, and would like to ask current customers about the usenet quality.
How much retention is there?
Are there any speed or quantity restrictions?
How many simultaneous connections are allowed?
Thanks very much for your response.

Re: Newsgroup quality?
Our newsgroup service is powered by one of the largest third part newsgroup providers. The retention is typically at least 75 days but in most cases we have seen over 100 days of retention. There is no limit in the amount of data that you can download. It is limited to two 384K streams though.
Thanks

Don't believe it for a minute.
If you can keep one stream, you're lucky.
502 errors before, now they are 400 errors.
Still the same effect.
Won't carry two streams, and VERY frequently spits out a connection because of authentication errors.

Dunno yeah I get a lot of errors, but if you use agent it will just pick up where it left off. speed isn't the fastest but if you want lots of groups and great retention its pretty good.

Re: Newsgroup quality?
I have not had a problem maintaining two streams and have found the newsgroup service to be very reliable.

The included newsgroup service is fantastic. Excellent completion and retention. You can queue up NZBs from months past. I rarely ever have problems. It's not fast but even with the limited speeds, you can download a LOT of data. It's a heck of a lot better than the NOTHING that the major providers are offering these days.
Every once in a while you get a bonus speed boost where your download blazes at your full connection speed too.

Re: Newsgroup quality?
I used to subscribe to supernews for news so here is what I think about the news feed provide by dslextreme:
- it is free with your account.
- the download speed for article is throttled compared to what you would if you get if you are subscribing directly to a news provider.
- the list of group provided seems extensive.
- the group retention is very good.
- the spam filtering is bad.
So if you are doing casual news reading then it is ok. If you use the binary group the download speed is not great.

Re: Newsgroup quality?
so when they say "384k" streams, do they mean 384KBytes, or 384kbits per second? 384kbits would mean about 4 hours for 700MB (or 2 hours using both streams)
