dial-up!

That second line was probably a data line with dialup ISP. Lots of people have two lines so they don't have to tie up their voice line to use the internet.

Almost twice as fast as me too...

I'm in southern PA and average around 50-80 at night now and not much better the rest of the day. It's been a downward slope for me (and my friends around here with cable internet) since Adelphia bought out GS Communications and made the transfer about 4-6 months ago. They claim to be working on a fix, but it's been 6 months. How inept can you be?! Their mail server is a joke too, but that problem was existent before Adelphia came along. If I can ever get something different, I will w/o a thought even if they do happen to get better.

gaydelphia

I have adelphia in Naugatuck, CT and for the past two weeks my modem loses sync every 15 minutes to an hour. Its 11pm right now and it lost sync 4 times since 10pm. Yet i am getting 3mbps/110kbps speeds. A couple months ago i was getting a solid connection but the speed was like 200kbps/100kbps so something is ALWAYS ALWAYS going wrong. I decided this weekend i am going back to dialup, i can no longer pay 52.99 for this garbage poor excuse for a ISP.

i can honestly say

I dropped Adelphia for about a year, went to dsl, paid big for 1.5mb. Just started back with adelphia a few weeks ago, seems fine so far( knock on wood), the first time we had them, it was major horror. Now everything is good, speed kicks. We have 3 ips coming to the house, the speed even with 3 pcs gaming online at the sametime is about 1.9mb, avg ping is 43-63and i have even reached 3mb d/l speed. so far we all are happy

Ad-Hell-phia

I live here in Buffalo, have had Adelphia twice in the last 5-7 years. The service has MARGINALLY imporved just enough to barely hanlde the fact that they seem to be the only game in town with cable internet access. My fist run with them was a nightmare of regular 2 to 5 hour wait times calling "tech support" to address constant down times and disconnects. It got to where they refused to take my calls, but they also refused to turn my *ahem* "service" off! Even after many requests to do so. I stopped auto payment and *poof* a few weeks later no service.
Fast forward a few years, My lady has it in her house I move in with her and actually hook up a computer to it. LOL Modem syncs out daily, at least once every time heavy traffic time starts up. (mornings and evenings, then a few times each night on weekends.
No matter how bad internet connection is or haw bad tech issues get they're much better to deal with (by reading a book or something) than calling the uneducated, crude, rude, ignorant neanderthals they have in thier employ. I work in the customer service field myself, and have never heard such audacity, or lack of professionalism from any but Adelphia employees. I may sound rude here but it's only charged out of justified anger, and in this case I'M the customer, so at this point it's my right.
The INSTANT anyone offers cable internet access in Buffalo NY besides Adelphia I'll jump ship so fast it'll leave skid marks on my modem. In the meantime I've made it my side-bar mission in life to inflict violence upon any Adelphia employees I meet in my time.

Re: Ad-Hell-phia

Buffalo guy, I know your pain. Adelphia may be fine in other areas, but it's absolutely terrible in the Western New York area.

Try to see if Verizon can service you. It's the only other option available, besides far too expensive satellite which in this area isn't the most reliable.

Re: Ad-Hell-phia

Tried to go the Verizon route for DSL. They are pretty incompitant here also. They can service people right across the street from me, but not this side of the street. What's ridiculous about it is that in case you can't tell from my language, I live in the inner city. I"m even on the same side of a major street as 3 of out city's biggest businesses. Veriszon had at one time sent me a modem, some cable and pretty much a "do it yourself kit" to install DSL. The modem didn't work however, as was tested at my work site, and they told me on calling them (after about a month of trying to install, and find the problem) that they could not offer service because the phone lines were too old, and / or not the kind they can send DSL through.
That part may have just been my bad karma,.. but Adelphia.... I've actually had tech people tel me to just "not be on the internet or computer so often.." I dunno but last time I checked that's what I'm paying these idiots for, so I can be.
Oh and for the record, I do know a completely dim-witted glaze eye-eyed neanderthal ho got hired by Adelphia, for tech support / customer service here in Buffalo's call center. Thisd is the type of guy who upon me loaning him $500 to get his car back on the road, didn't even offer a thank you to me or my wife. lol I magine that mentality on your next customer service call to Adelphia. That ius IF anyone picks up the phone at all.

Verizon DSL

Not sure if you want/can get DSL, but I have had Verizon for about 3 months now. In the past 3 months, I've been down for about 15 minutes and that was on Christmas Eve. I pay $30/month, getting $5 off per month because I have Verizon Freedom Package. I constantly get speeds of 1500/128 and have had no problems whatsoever.

Re: Verizon DSL

I just switched from Verizon dsl. I was paying 51 for 1500/128. then I had to pay 17.45 to a provider because of some monopoly rule out here in washington state. Switched to adelphia. Setup cd doesn't work right. Setup program online doesn't work right. Call them they get me going. Tech tells me that it may seem a little slow because there is a problem. Not too slow. But fro about a week I was getting dl speeds of about 100 Kbps. Thats barley twice that of a dialup conenction. Irate... Email several times. Told to run billions of tests (took about and hour) TOld my connection is fine. TOld them b/s. I am not paying 50 bucks for two times a dialup connection. Changed the way my modem was provisioned on the network. Nothing better. Finally they say scan for a virus. I check my scan logs for the past 2 months. No viruses. They say call them. I call them do the speed tests again. Tech says thats not the right speed. I say no sh*t. He gives up and says there is a routing problem between my city and another. I ask when is it going to be fixed. He says don't know. I say why not he say they don't tell up too much. I say fine whatever. Ill pay the bill when you guys fix the problem. Next day problem solved. For the most part. Only getting about 900 Kb/s but thats better than 100Kb/s ..... Done ranting!! Thanks for listening.
