This also shows why any effort to solve online problems - whether scams, spam, viruses, etc. - simply by "educating" users, is doomed to fail. Not only is there a fairly significant portion of users who appear to be incurably gullible; but there is also a constant flow of newbies who may be fooled once and never again, but still provide enough initial fodder to keep scams and schemes going.

Once people get hooked into these things, it's easier for them to believe that they really will get paid rather than admit that they were scammed. It's the same principle that sucks people deeper and deeper into the 411 scams.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but I almost had a fistfight over a scam that was printed on a piece of paper. It was one of those "stuff envelopes for cash" deals that had you send in $29.95 for your "starter pack"(whatever that was) and get you on your way to making big money just by stuffing envelopes.
My friend actually believed it was real, because someone he knew had actually done this. Or so he claimed. In truth, this is a not-very-complex scam that only requires you to believe what is printed on a piece of paper, and then get you to mail money to a rented temporary drop box. One month later, said drop box is gone and you, the unwitting sucker who believes everything he reads, is out $29.95.
Scam over. Why do people continue to fall for it? Desperation. Greed. Stupidity.
Pick your reason. And then send me your money! I will make a millionaire out of you! I can do it! I have done it! All you need to do is believe me!
Would I lie to you, a perfect stranger?
NO, I will not lie to you. I have never lied to you and there is no reason for you to expect me to lie to you....
So send me the money! I'm honest. Believe me!

So, I'm trying to say is this must be a scam because I'm not even trying and im up to 100.00. If it really pays out, this is the best pay site by far. If it doesn't then people know they wasted their money on referrals and they know that it was a scam anyways. I personall beleive it is. Because it's not possible to pay such a fee to searches and at the same time make a decent profit.

Actually, that scam is legal, if the person you send that $30 to sends you a piece of paper back that tells you to put ads in papers and run the scam on others. As long as they follow through with the response, they are legit.
Netbux is like the rest. A few people early on will get some money, so that the company is "legit"

yeah, I've had jobs that pay more with about the same amount of work. The reasons I initially decided to try netbux were:
1) I only had to give an email adress
2) I didn't have to pay to do it
3) It didn't seem all that great (less than 5 bucks an hour is bellow minimum wage.)
I basically just figured that I would search while brushing my teeth, thus getting paid below minimum wage for something I had been nothing for before (plus it made me brush my teeth a little longer, which was good).
Right now I just waiting for confirmation either way for whether this is a scam or not. until I know, I'm not even going to search while brushing my teeth.

Yeah, I did research it. I couldn't find anything until I was about 5 dollars into it (then for some reason I was able to find scam reporting sites where something other than "SCAM!" was posted). Because I researched it and found that the netbux site was fairly new, I decided to only do it during time when I was already busy (brushing my teeth)so as not to lose any time that I would normally spend doing other things. The only people I talked to about this site were a couple of my freinds, and I also told them to wait until I found out if anyone actually would get paid before signing up(unless they were interested in brushing their teeth and searching as well).
To tell you the truth, I actually profited from this because while I was doing searches, I was brushing my teeth a little longer than usual, which is something I needed to get into the habit of doing.

You can set a price for information, someone else (hired by Google) can find your answer and get the finders fee, which you pay. How is this in ANY WAY like the netbux scam? O_o

Who is really gullible?
I can't help but shake my head at the people posting here who are so absolutely, adamantly positive that this or that is a scam, and no one can convince them otherwise. How does that make you any different from the people you're mocking, who refuse to believe that a scam is a scam? Both of you are pushing aside any facts or new information and assuming that you know best, no matter what.
People are getting flamed here just for signing up for something like Netbux, but have those flamers actually even given it a chance to find out if it's a scam? Why are you labelling things you know nothing about? If you have no first or second-hand experience of any kind, what gives you the right to pass judgement on it?
This is a new sort of business in the world, brought about by the internet. Some of them, one can suppose, will turn out to be scams, but it seems rather foolish to make blanketed statements with minimal, if any, data to back them up.
Some of the first major, successful businesses of this type, such as freeipods.com and others from the Gratis network have been investigated by many different parties, and I have yet to read a single report that finds them to be illegitimate. If you actually took the time to research before you pass your judgement, you could check them out with the Better Business Bureau and you'll find only a handful of complaints at best, most, if not all of which have been resolved. This is not to say you'll get your item or money for nothing; you have to put in the effort and follow the steps.
All that said, the only site of this kind I have signed up for is freedvds.com, and I can tell you that I have received about 5 DVD's to date, brand new, shipped free, at no more charge to me than perhaps $1 per DVD accrued by certain trial offers. Not only that, but they even replaced one DVD for me which was damaged during shipping, again at no charge and with no red tape. For suspending skepticism and actually taking the time to find out things for myself rather than just blindly attacking others, I have gotten essentially for free what would have otherwise cost me a fair amount of money. I have not tried any other "referral" sites because that's simply not my kind of thing. I do, however, have a friend who now has an iPod which cost nothing, courtesy of Gratis.
If any of you self-important, deaf-to-anything-outside-of-your-own-mind folks have actually read and considered what I've written, perhaps you will, if nothing else, find a different way to feed your egos than rampantly flaming anyone whose opinions differ from yours. I'm certainly no spokesman for free money/prize sites - and note when I say that it's quite possible that some are scams. But, perhaps instead of quoting P.T. Barnum (although I do agree with his quote as well), you should consider that "It is a wise man who knows there is much he does not know." Take some time to find facts to support your case, and you'll be much more persuasive. Until then, you sound like a pompous jerk.

anon @ 21st May 02:58PM:
Re: Who is really gullible?
Well, I have new found reasons to think that netbux is a scam. Ok, they just changed everything over to shares. If you had like $5.26 before, you now have 526 shares. You get 1 share per search. They haven't really decided on how much money 1 share will be worth, but they said atleast 1 cent, hoping for 2 or 3 cents. They said you can make 1 to 5 cents per share. Now, if they were a real true to their word company and were actually handing out this money, they would never promise more than 1 cent per search. Reason is, for that person who had 526 shares now, say netbux gives out 3 cents a share. This person now has 3 times as much money as he had before they converted everything to shares. Now, seeing as the people who still don't believe this is a scam are still searching, the shares they are getting from the most recent searches are added to the shares they got converted from their amount of money they had before. Unless Netbux has some way of detecting how many shares they had before they started searching after they changed all of this, then hundreds of thousands of users would be getting 3 times the amount expected before this. Some people have over $30 easy, on average people would be getting like 60 dollars more. This money can't magically appear, so where would netbux be getting this money if they were actually expecting to pay people. Obviously netbux isnt too worried about how much money they would be losing in this, because they can't lose any money when they aren't paying anyone. And I don't see how they are going to be able to check every single person's searches they had before this new update thing, considering they have hundreds of thousands of users. That would take an incredible amount of effort.

You don't even have to invest anything, I gained over 30 refs by just posting my ref link on a free autosurf.

All those places do is destroy your computer
Forget Netbux, CashFiesta, Paypup, if you want to go to those places, you'll end up like me, I had to recover my computer over 10 times in the last month, thank god the viruses spared my external CD/DVD burner or I'd be in a lot of hurt, but some of you might not be as lucky as me if you join them, plus, their payments are so screwed up, they tell you that you'll get $50 if you advertise them around, but they don't give it, you know what they did the last time? They blamed their non payments on paypal which I've been using for years and never had a problem with it, and $50 isn't that much considering I have to provide now for my unborn child, I have to pay for my apartment, my boyfriend's bail (don't ask) and my car insurance, as well as my gas and groceries.
I thought Netbux would be an easy $50 in my pocket but I was dead wrong on that, if you guys want any money at all, go to the place where I make my living now, it's called Solomaniac and it's easier then Netbux even and doesn't give you shit on your computer so I can keep up with my daily life without having to worry if I gotta recover my computer or not.
I thought this place was like any other, I was like, dude, this place is gonna screw me over too, but at least it didn't give me viruses so I decided to keep up with it with a promised $10,000 payout which I could have definately used for my baby and guess what, after a month of being on it, I got $10,000 sitting in my bank account and damn do I feel relieved, and I didn't have to pay shit to get it either lol, I just READ EMAILS, that's it! I'd go back to Solomaniac every once an awhile and I'd have a list of $10 emails, I even cheated the system basically, they want you to look at ads for 60 seconds at the very least, I popped them all up in seperate windows and got $200 all at once lol and it didn't take me more then 5min of waiting! And some of the emails I got were of $50 and $100s, that was awesome, I paid them $600 of what they gave me afterwards to get on their biggest plan of everything too so now I don't have to wait for a minimum payout, when I want the money I earned, I get it when I want it, and I'm so glad, my god I thought my life was over, I was broker then hell lol and with my boyfriend in jail, well there's no money coming in for him, goes to the jail until he comes out in August!
So this worked, if you don't believe me or think it's too good to be true, well, that's your choice but I'm telling you, I have the money, it's why I still have cable and running computer, I was about to have this all shut off to save money! I get to keep it now and I'm so relieved! I don't have to worry about expenses anymore, it feels really good....
If any of you don't believe me, feel free to email me at jessie1311@hotmail.com I'll show you as many screen shots as you want of my bank account activity, seriously, lol

He's right. Solomaniac really does work and you really do get money. Trust me. Give ita try and you'll see. What do you got to lose? The worst tat can happen is that you waste a litle time wasted on reading one or two emails. Try it out right now.

Is Netbux & Paypup a scam?
I don't think they are scams.
For one they have already paid their members.
Also the way they are run, there is no problem in generating enough revenues to pay all users
A lot of paid to search programs have been launched recently following these 2.

Bloh
Netbux seems a bit nice when I first signed up. But after all these accusations I began feeling a bit doubtful. So I stopped using it. I then went on to ibux. There doesn't seem to be any negative talk about it. But anyways... if you're against it then dont try it. No ones forcing you. Just try and figure out some things for yourself. I've stopped using netbux after a bit of uneasiness. And I went onto another site called »www.ibux.net/?r=6105
I've googled it for articles on scams. Seems pretty clear so I stick with it. But yeah. Theres a bit too much controversy going around with netbux so to be on the safe side.
And those autosurfing sites.. Pay to read... blah. I dont recommend those. Been onto a number of them.

It's gone and i'm not surprised!!!
so yeah, i tried the netbux thing, if i had any searches to do, i'd work through their homepage instead of just google -- i figure "hey if it works out, it works out"
and no they're virtually disappeared... clicking to "netbux.org" sends you to another site that simply says "searchoodles" with a text box and the option to try a few different search engines... and, to no surprise, the "contact us" link just doesn't seem to be working:uhh:
...good thing i wasn't really invested in this piece of junk
