Cable 360 notes that Comcast may be eyeing an oversees expansion, and could be bidding on U.K. cable operator Virgin Media.
The City A.M. newspaper cites a source close to Virgin Media in reporting that Richard Branson's cable company, formerly operating as NTL Telewest, has been approached by 11 parties expressing interest in acquiring the operator, including Comcast. Other interested bidders include Time Warner and private equity firms including Providence, Blackstone and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR).
They offer a pdf link to the report, which surfaced earlier this week in the British City A.M. newspaper.

Comcast returns....

Up until 1998 Comcast had a UK division. Looks like they just want to get back into the market. If they hadn't sold to NTL who knows what would have happened.

this is a bad idea

With so many interested parties, a bidding war seems likely.
I would prefer seeing the US cable companies, NOT, spread themselves out, instead concentrating their investment on expanding and improving service within the US.

i REALLY hope comcast does this!

because then they can go over there and give people the REAL deal they deserve unlike the monopoly ISP's in those countries that overcharge for low speed tiers and put usage caps on their customers

Neat

I think I'd enjoy transferring to England, I love it over there.

They can only own so much here. . .

Since cable operators are limited to how much of the market they can have in the states, which Comcast is rapidly approaching, they'll just expand where they can.
